MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee
December is now upon us, and I hope that all were able to enjoy Thanksgiving
to its fullest. Again, we had much to give thanks for, and much to be proud
of in the Commonwealth. Now, we move toward another holiday which gives us
all time to enjoy our families and friends, and to reflect upon the events of
2006 and consider a new year that will be coming very quickly! By
contributing to the majority in the US Senate, we have affected the course of the
country over the next two years, and put some restraints upon the government
that has operated with reduced “checks and balances” which our Democracy so
heavily relies. We all should be very proud of that! But now our
attention needs to shift to the situation that we all have in Richmond with the
legislature. We are very fortunate to be represented in the House of Delegates
by David Toscano. He has about a third of the County in his District, and
thank goodness for his good representation! The bad news is that the rest of
the County is not so well represented!
The County has shown itself to be changing. . . . in some part due to growth
and to some part due to the hard work by all you Democrats. And we have
some work to do this year! We can contribute to a change in the make-up of
the House of Delegates as we made a difference with the US Senate. Gov.
Kaine is trying December is now upon us, and I hope that all were able to enjoy
Thanksgiving to its fullest. to get good legislation passed concerning
transportation, medical care, and addressing the school issues, but he is having
no cooperation from the Republican majority in both the House and the Senate.
To maintain the competitive advantage that the Commonwealth must have to
compete for business and the benefit of the citizens, it must have the three
elements that Gov. Kaine is trying to address. Let us help him by electing
good people to the legislature next year. We have shown that we have the
strength to do this, but we have got to exhibit it one more time! We also have
contests at the Board of Supervisors level in Rivanna, White Hall, and
Scottsville Districts. We will be nominating good Democrats there, and we need to
support them with our time, votes and energy. Take your time and enjoy the
holiday season. But please know that we have another very important year
ahead of us, and I look forward to working with all of you to make Albemarle
County and the Commonwealth a better place to live!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Fred
