MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee

TIME TO VOTE!

The time has finally come for us to make our voices heard over the variety of situations that exist with our government. We are less than one week away for the big day, and I am very excited about the progress of the campaigns. So many of you have participated in so many ways. Some have worked for a specific campaign and some have volunteed your time with the County party. But either way, the mission has been to elect Democrats, and so many of you have generously committed to that result. Thank you for your help, no matter the avenue of your choice. But it is not over yet, and please don’t stop now. This is the most critical time, and winning is within our grasp.

In very simple terms, both campaigns are depending on Albemarle County to provide a large margin to ensure their victory either statewide or District wide. So we need to turn out every voter that we can for the Democrats on Tuesday. We all know that whether the Senate is returned to Democratic control may well depend on the outcome in Virginia. I hope that will only encourage you to practice some real “outreach” in the next few days to ensure that all those Democrats that you know are voting. We all believe it is important. . . and it is!

The three amendments are also a part of the ballot, and, as usual, very little information is available on them. However, to assist you in your consideration of the three amendments, you can access the full text and explanation of all of them (they really are not too long), at the www.albemarledems.org site and then just click on the amendments tab. To make it easier still, your Steering Committee passed a resolution recommending a “NO” vote on Amendment #1. The objection is based mostly on the second paragraph of the text as it is far too broad to not have “unintended consequences” that could be harmful to many people. Also, for your assistance, the Virginia State Democratic Party also passed a like resolution and Governor Tim Kane, State Senator Creigh Deeds and Julian Bond have also recommended a “NO” vote. Amendment #2 was introduced by a good Democrat, State Senator John Edwards of Roanoke which is mostly just a “housekeeping” kind of amendment.
Amendment #3 has to do with the investment of redevelopment funds. The amendment seems to have no real opposition . The County Steering Committee has taken no position on Amendments #2 and #3.

Thank you again, for all of the assistance you have given. If we can keep the effort strong for only a few more days, we will celebrate on Tuesday knowing full well that we did everything we could to bring the County into the WINNING column for our candidates and contribute in a meaningful way to victory in the Commonwealth.

Good luck to Al Weed and Jim Webb for their courageous efforts. You gentlemen are the very best!

Fred
