MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee
Your County party is very much involved with the campaign this year, as you have grown to expect us to be. It has all the signs of a very good campaign, but we are going to have to do our part to make the campaign successful for our great list of candidates. The process of identifying voters has been the main focus during the month of July. After all, it is what we can effectively do to support the people who are running. Each Saturday, we have had teams on the street. The officers of the County Committee who have been “regulars” are Jean Wyant, Kip Newland, Valeria L’Herrou, Nick Lang, Cheryl Oliver, Jon-Phillip Sheridan and I. The volunteers have been a group of very able people, specifically, Jennifer Wabin, Cynthia Neff, Nini Almy, Susan Faxon, Barbara Kurth, Lucia Phinny, and of course, all six of the candidates themselves. The party and the candidates are working well together this year and that, of course, bodes well for a
successful conclusion in November. Your help is always needed and appreciated. Just call the office (296 1865) or respond to my email to “count you in” for the next project! We are only out for two hours, so the number of people we have involved is very important.
August is always one of the most exciting months of the whole year. We “kick” the month off with the County Fair. It is open this year from July 31 until August 5. I hope you can come out and enjoy the Fair, and if you do, please drop by your County party’s tent and say “hello”. It is always good to see good Democrats where ever we happen to be! Then on the 25th, the Annual BBQ occurs, and it is going to be particularly exciting this year. We will be at Ashlawn-Highland, the home of James Monroe, for the event. The grounds are beautiful, and the facility is terrific. I know you will enjoy it. We have a full program of exciting presentations. I would be remiss in my duties if I did not mention some of the terrific auction items that we have available this year.
The following will be available for your consideration and purchase and there will be more:
Back by “popular demand” is the week in the Outer Banks, in Duck, North Carolina . It is a four bedroom resort house (sleeps 8), that is fully equipped and furnished. It is available for purchase in either November 28- December 5, 2007 , or February 27- March 5, 2008 period. More details at the BBQ. The reviews on that item from last year were great, and I hope you will take advantage of the offering.
Wintergreen Condominium: Weekend at Wintergreen in a lovely, fully-equipped 2 Bedroom Condo. Available March-December 20, 2008, and the First Weekend in January! More details at the BBQ.
Montfair Resort Farm: weekend getaway in the country for 2-4 people in an A-Frame Cottage overlooking a 6 acre lake. Fishing, hiking, and relaxing.
Live Arts Wild Card Season Tickets for the 2007-2008 season: The Clean House, String of Pearls, Lysistrata, American Buffalo, Mother Courage and her Children, A Little Night Music, and the Beard of Avon.
The Starlight Express: two Round Trip tickets to New York City in the comfort of the Starlight Express buses.
Day in the Legislature with Deeds: Spend a Day in the Virginia State Senate as Creigh goes about the business of our Government and then Join Creigh for Lunch in Richmond.
And two really unusual book offerings:
Autographed copy: The Best loved poems of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, by Caroline Kennedy.
Autographed copy:Helping Yourself Help Others: A Book for Caregivers by Rosalynn Carter.
I hope you will be a bidder at the auction, and join in with the fun as well as the enjoyment of the item that you purchase. All proceeds go to the Albemarle County Democratic Party to support local election activities.
Hope to see you at the BBQ.
Fred
