MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee
February is the month when the reflection stops and the planning and organization begins for the next year. 2007 has its challenges, no question about it, but the opportunities are present for the Democratic Party to continue to build upon its accomplishments. We are looking forward to a good season. . . one that will require help from all of the good Democrats in Albemarle County, but one that will, in the end, provide us with an opportunity to make our contribution.
In mid-May, we will have our County wide caucus that we will use as our nominating caucus for the various candidates that we will be supporting. It should be a wonderful evening when we choose those who will represent us for the election, and hopefully, onward. This year, we have the Board of Supervisors in Rivanna, Scottsville, and White Hall Districts that we will be nominating along with the Sheriff candidate as well as others. The date is not totally fixed yet, but it will be by the time that we share this update at the first of March. We will have some "housekeeping" matters to attend to, but mostly it will be an evening of selecting our "team" for the elections. That is not only a responsibility on our part, but also and opportunity to get to know our candidates better and be prepared to move their candidacy to completion. I am excited about the event, and I hope you will come out and participate.
A couple of weeks ago, a letter was sent to you about being a part of the Committee. Participation is important since without you, nothing can happen. So please send back your committee application and check for $25.00. Being a part is important, and the price is not too large. But we can do good things when we put all of those checks together. We operate the office. . . but there is no payroll, so it all goes to just maintaining our presence. We also contribute to candidates, and this year that will be the local candidates that I have spoken about above. We nominate them, we support their financial needs, and we provide volunteer support in mailing preparation and canvassing. The nomination by the Democratic Party is important as we can and do provide many things to candidates. But we need your help to do that. Please go to the web site, www.albemarledems.org for the application. It is there, waiting for you to fill it out and send it in to the office. We need

February 12 Steering Committee Meeting, 5:30 - 7:30 PM at the Albemarle County Office Building, Fifth Street Extended, Room B, Charlottesville
February 16 Steering Committee of the Virginia Democratic Party, 7:00 PM- 9:00 at the Richmond Convention Center, Richmond Public is invited.
February 17 Democratic Breakfast, JABA, 674 Hillsdale Road, Charlottesville. Light breakfast is served. The subject will be a presentation on the Drug Court in Charlottesville and Albemarle by Jeff Gould and Jana Glenn. Should be very interesting.
February 17 Central Committee of the Virginia Democratic Party, 10:00 AM - 12:00 at the Richmond Convention Center, Richmond. Public is invited.
