MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee

Was that Caucus that we had not the very best! There were about 500 people there (remember. . .almost all the seats were taken) and almost 400 voters. We selected a very good group of candidates that we can all be proud. You will hear about them more and more as the few months go by until the election, but let me start with our candidates:

DENISE LUNSFORD: Commonwealth Attorney
LARRY CLAYTOR: Sheriff of Albemarle County
DEBRA SHIPP: Clerk of Court
ANN MALLEK: White Hall Board of Supervisors
LINDSAY DORRIER: Scottsville Board of Supervisors
MARCIA JOSEPH: Rivanna Board of Supervisors

All of the men and women who stood for the nomination were outstanding people, and the selection was not easy. But there had to be someone who wins and we have a wonderful group to represent us as we move into the summer and fall. Congratulations to all of you, and thank you so much to all of the candidates for giving of themselves and their time in an effort to better Albemarle County. I hope to see those not getting the nomination this time to be back in the process next election cycle in an effort to express your desire to serve the public.

Your county party is “kicking off” the campaign season with an informational “training” session on June 18. The location is the Albemarle County Office Building on 5th Street Extended, Room A, and it will begin at 5:30 and end by 8 PM . We will cover the campaign process which would be interesting to many, what your county party can contribute to the process and a brief overview of the selection process for Delegates to the National Convention in 2008. Should be an interesting and informative session, and if I know us, there will be a good “dose” of fun along the way and “light refreshments” also. I hope that many of you can attend.

June begins the process of ensuring that we as Democrats make our voice heard. We have accomplished that in the past, but it has taken effort on the part of us all to make the county a place of a strong Democratic voice. We can continue that progression, but it will continue to require all of us, pitching in and doing our part. I do hope that you will come forward and contribute in anyway that you can. Come to the session on June 18 and join in the many activities of the summer and fall. With the candidates that we have, this should be a fine year for your Party, but we are going to need the help of all good Democrats to “make it happen”. This year presents challenges but we have met them in the past, and we can do it again!

We have all waited a long time for the start of the campaign, so let’s start it off by committing to take back the Virginia House and Senate! We are close. . . and we can do it! I look forward to seeing you at one of the many activities very soon.

Fred

P.S. Save the Date: BBQ on August 25th at Ash Lawn. It will truly be an exciting event!
