MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee

The campaign season is certainly beginning! For some, the candidate
process has been going on for about a year now, and we approach the time to
nominate our candidates for County Constitutional offices as well as three Board
of Supervisor candidates this month. The offices to be selected have an
enormous impact on our daily lives as Albemarle County residents and their
nomination is the first step in what needs to be their election to office. The
selections are so very important and, as Democrats, we have the ability to
contribute to the process in a very meaningful way. The opportunity occurs on
May 14th. We will be holding the caucus to nominate in the Albemarle County
Office Building on McIntire Road in the Auditorium. Registration will
begin at 6, and the actual caucus will begin at 7. You will have a chance to
meet the candidates and use your own judgment as to who you would like to
represent you. It will be a very exciting night with much to do that has a huge
impact on our local government.
The candidates are:
SHERIFF
Larry Claytor Roger Craig
COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY
Denise Lunsford
CLERK OF COURT
Janet Ferrance Debbie Shipp
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
RIVANNA DISTRICT: Marcia Joseph
SCOTTSVILLE DISTRICT: Lindsey Dorrier and Kevin Fletcher
WHITE HALL DISTRICT: Ann Mallek

There will be talks by Senator Creigh Deeds and Del. David Toscano. The
evening promises to be informative, interesting and a very big night for
politics in Albemarle County! I do hope you can come down and join us. Bring
your voter registration card, and join us for a very interesting evening. . .
and I promise you that!
Once we have our nominees, we will be organizing our campaign season. We
will be “kicking off” this year’s campaign with a training and information
session on June 18th. It will begin at 5:30 and should be finished by 7:30. We
will be talking about the volunteer activities that we will be engaged in and
there will also be an explanation about the process to becoming a delegate
to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August. There will be a
quantity of good information delivered. It is the quest of the Albemarle
County Democratic Party to have a wonderful volunteer program to help with the
campaigns and the Election Day activities for the candidates. The candidates
are willing to make the commitment to run, and it seems the least we can do
to assist them is to give a bit of time each week during the campaign season.
A full explanation of all the opportunities will be available at the
training session so please mark it on your calendar!
I look forward to seeing you soon as we gear up to continue our “winning ways
” in Albemarle County! There are some interesting challenges this year,
and we can successfully meet them with a little thought and preparation. We
can have some fun in the process of doing it! That is the best.
Hope to see you soon.
Fred
