Grace Tinsley Scholarship Fund 
for deserving high school graduates continuing their education

Grace Tinsley was a long-time member and leader of the Charlottesville Democratic Party. Hers was a life dedicated to community service and social activism. She was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement in Charlottesville and, together with other Democrats, fought against segregation in our schools, our community and within the Democratic Party of Virginia. To those who knew Grace and worked with her, she personified the highest ideals and values. 
Grace was the recipient of many honors and awards. Among these are the following:
The Drewary J. Brown award from the Charlottesville Democratic Party for dedicated service to the Charlottesville community. 
The Virginia Women's Forum "Woman of the Year" in 2000. 
Recognition as a "bridge builder" for the Drewary J. Brown memorial bridge in 2001. 
The Martin Luther King, Jr. award in 2002. 
Recipient of a special resolution from the Commonwealth of Virginia 
General Assembly for "dedication to the welfare of the citizens of Charlottesville." 
The first African-American woman to be appointed to the Charlottesville School Board.
