MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee
The BBQ is now just a recent memory, but what an event it was! I will admit. . . the weather did not cooperate with us, but that did not seem to dampen the spirit of the Democrats who gathered. It was exciting in two ways. First of all, we had a very good attendance and for that I am always appreciative to those who come out. We had many new Democrats to welcome, and that too is always very exciting. Secondly, over 600 of you all bought tickets and that was just terrific. I know some of you did not come out due to the weather, but the support of the party was very strong and that is good for the future of the party and the outcome of elections in Albemarle County . Thank you so much for your support of the Party, and we are already looking forward to a most exciting event next year when we meet. In my opinion, it is the “premier” political event in Central Virginia , and your support and attendance has made it so. We will be ready for a
wonderful event next year, so get ready!
The historical campaign concept is that with Labor Day, the campaigns will begin. But let me be the first to tell you that the campaign has been going in a serious way almost since the nominating caucus that we had in May. Our candidates have been out in the neighborhoods, speaking with voters, going to candidate forums, being interviewed for endorsements for weeks now, and I know they think they are in “high gear” as to the campaign operation. The County Party has had volunteers in the neighborhoods doing voter identification since our Training event on June 18. Every week we determine new Democrats who have moved to the area or have become more sympathetic to our message. Being out there with the voters makes you feel very positive about the upcoming election, and the candidates that we have deserve our support!
To oversimplify, a political campaign needs three things. . . .time, people, and money. If you have some time that you would like to provide to the campaign this year, please call Cheryl at 296 1865 or just drop me a note to the email address below. We have an assortment of things to do from identifying voters to data entry missions. I promise you that you will not be asked to do anything you don’t want to do! How much time is not important. If you have an hour from time to time, or a lot of time to give, it does not matter, and it is all appreciated greatly. Just let us know. It allows us to do more, which enables us to support the candidates even better! There is also the financial part of a campaign. All of the candidates need our financial support to finish the work they are trying to do. If you can make a contribution, please do. It does not matter how much, just send it to them, or to us and we will deliver according to your wish.
The candidates would appreciate any amount, I can assure you.
I hope to see you soon as we do the necessary things to continue our “winning ways” in Albemarle County ! And I look forward to seeing you again at the BBQ next year and the events that will occur as the year goes by! Again, I appreciate your help and your support of the County Party so very much, and I hope to see you soon.
Fred
