As we release the News Clips for August, the County Fair is very much under way.  I hope that if you are going out this weekend, that you will be sure and stop by the Democratic tent.   The Democratic campaigns will all be at the Fair, and the ACDP has a good group of volunteers who would love to see you out and to visit with you for a minute or two.  We are right by the Family Tent where the children go to pet the animals.  It is a good place to be, and we hope to see you out there.
 
The campaigns are also in the “high gear” mode, and will remain so until Election Day.  Obviously, the County party is supporting them to the extent that we are able, but your time and energy are always needed and appreciated.  If you can give some time on the weekends, please just contact the party at the number at the bottom of the News Clips.  If during the week is more convenient for you, then call or email also.   Your help is needed to make this year a complete success.  We all are aware of the high stakes that are present in the election this year.   While we can assume that the vote will turn out very positively in this area, it is the whole state and the 5th District that we have to be sure to carry.   So while our vote may be fine here, we need to increase the size of our Democratic presence in the total vote so that we can be sure to win the State for Barack Obama and Mark Warner, and to carry the 5th District for Tom Perriello.   We are
 past due for a change of leadership in this county and in the 5th District.   It is up to us to make a difference in that leadership, and we can only do it if we make it happen in Albemarle County .  That means working together and supporting the three campaigns to the extent that we are able.  There is no benefit to wishing we had done more if we wake up the day after the election and we had fallen short by a bit.  Let’s not take that chance.  Contact the County party with a simple question. . . “how can I help?”.
 
We are scheduling the BBQ for September 21.  That is a Sunday afternoon, and I hope you will plan now to come out and join us.   We are going to have more cooperative weather this year, I believe, and you will enjoy the friends, both old and new, that you see there.  We will be starting a little earlier than we have in years past ( 3 PM ), and we will be all done enjoying the great BBQ by dusk.  I hope you can come out.   The tickets are $20 on an advance purchase, and $25 at the door.  Contact the party at the number below and make arrangements for your tickets.  This is going to be a particularly great year, and I hope you will plan to join us.  
 
Now is the time to be involved with the campaigns.   We have a very good situation with the local Coordinated Campaign, and we are going to have a terrific fall campaign. . . filled with energy and excitement.   You will have a good time, make new friends, and make a contribution to the national political landscape that is critical.   I hope to see you at one event or another as we move along.  We can make this a great year!

AUGUST
 August 1- August 3.  Albemarle County  Fair, South on Route 29 and right on Plank Road.  The Albemarle County  Democratic Party will have a booth at the fair.  Come by and say  hello.  Candidates will be present depending on their schedule, and  literature will always be available.  Should be a terrific event.  I hope you can come out and enjoy the fun.  The fair will open  at 4 PM during the week.            

August 2.  Voter Identification  program meets at 9:30 on Saturday morning.  We will contact voters to  attempt to determine their interest in the Democratic nominees.   Please  look for future notes concerning the meeting places in each of the Magisterial  Districts.  The voter identification program is the best way that you can  assist the party in making sure that the Democratic candidates win in Albemarle  County.

August 4.  Albemarle  County Democratic Steering Committee Meeting (5:30 - 7:30 p.m.) at the Albemarle  County Office Building , 1600 5th Street , Charlottesville , Room B.   Public is invited.  

August 9.  Voter Identification  program meets at 9:30 on Saturday morning.  We will contact voters to  attempt to determine their interest in the Democratic nominees.  August  16. No  meeting for the Charlottesville-Albemarle Democratic Breakfast in  August.

Every Saturday morning  at 9 AM:   Listen to the  Albemarle Political Corner that focuses on local issues that affect the lives of  each of us.    WVAX, 1450 (AM).  We have just renewed the contract for the next year, so  you will continue to receive  information about local issues  from  the Democratic perspective every week.  The program is  always different, so please tune in.
