MESSAGE FROM FRED HUDSON, Chair, Albemarle County Democratic Committee:

The campaign season is now upon us, and we began the very productive exercise of voter contact on June 28. We had 26 people talking to voters in four Magisterial Districts, and I think that was a very good start to the season. This is a great year for voter ID. People are interested, and they are ready to communicate with us on their views. In many ways, it is fun to be out as people are glad to see us. In addition, it is a very productive for getting out the voters on Election Day, and we certainly have shown that we can do it very well! I hope that you will come out and enjoy the many Saturday mornings with us. We will start at 9:30 and we will end by noon. Not a lot of time commitment, but it is very worthwhile in terms of voter education, and getting ready for Election Day. We have a group of terrific candidates, who need our help, and I know that many of you are ready to “pitch in”. So Saturday morning, July 12th is a good time to
come out and join the group. There will be more information on the meeting places for that day, but please reserve the day.

Coming up are the County Fair during the last few days of July and the beginning of August, and of course, the annual BBQ will occur later. I hope you will come out to both. At the Fair, be sure to stop by and say hello. We will have a booth there, and it will have good Democrats staffing with plenty of campaign literature there. Now something of unusual note. . . .We are having to move the date of the BBQ this year due to the National Democratic Convention. It will be on September 21st, (yes, that is Sunday), and we will be going back to Ashlawn. Should be a great evening. There will be great food and entertainment, and Ashlawn itself will be open to all attendees. You have grown to expect good food and good fun, and I think we can promise you both this year. Please come on out. There will be plenty more on the BBQ before it starts!

Thank goodness we have finally started the local campaign effort. The candidates have been at work for months now, and it is great to be joining such a fine group of people. So now, let’s set about expanding our majorities in the House and Senate! The next Congress needs to be "veto proof"! We have shown that our effort contributes greatly to the Statewide totals, and we can certainly do it again. I look forward to working with you in July and onward.
