I wanted to take a moment and thank those of you who came out for the BBQ last Sunday and I wanted to thank again those who contributed so much to putting it on. It was a great event, and I just could not possibly wait another minute before I told you how much I appreciated you all. What an exciting event! We are not even close to the final numbers, but it looks like we had around 800 paid tickets for the event, and that made it a smashing success. Thank you so very much!

For those of you who were there, you heard the best line-up of speakers in the Commonwealth. Tom Perriello started the speaker period with the best speech he has ever made. He was followed by Terry McAuliffe who was speaking as an Obama surrogate and gave us the enthusiasm and motivation to win the election. Dick Cranwell, the Chair of the Virginia Democratic Party was the keynoter and added the style of wit and Virginia flavor for which he is so well known. I have never gotten so much positive responses in the past as I did for the speakers, and I am very happy that we had a chance to have them participate in our BBQ event. If you did not hear the speeches but would like to you have a second chance, you can listen right now to the McAuliffe speech. Go to www.wvax.com and you will see the location on the first page of the website. You will be glad you heard those great remarks. The other speakers will be posted soon at the same location.

Chris Dumler was the person who was in charge of the BBQ this year and just did a terrific job. Cindy Janechild was the Decoration Czarina. She was responsible for all those nicely decorated tables. Eric Strucko, Jeff Sobel, John Loehr, Steve Rose, Madison Cummings, Elton Oliver and Peter McIntosh were the chefs and in my opinion, turned out the best BBQ served on that day in Charlottesville. The czarinas responsible for the rest of the food were Cynthia Neff and Valerie L'Herrou. What about those beans, green salads and the fruit salad, and desserts! Just amazing. It was a terrific night, and the other volunteers assisting those in charge of the areas of the BBQ did a fine job from early morning on Sunday until pretty late that night. A great effort by a lot of people and they all deserve a very hearty thank you!

I would like to give a special note to the sponsors of the BBQ also. Without their help, it would have been a difficult party to have. I am very grateful to each and every one of you, and I cannot thank you enough.

It won't be long until the next BBQ, so be ready to enjoy it! I hope you will be there next year for the exciting program that we will be putting together. But I hope to see you before then!

Fred
