1.  Helping Hands Volunteers Needed For Our New Kindergarten Students

These volunteers assist kindergarten teachers get their students to their
classrooms from the bus for the first few weeks of school.
Please contact Karen Strayer (kdstrayer at adelphia.net) with your preferred
time/dates. We need two parents for each bus.

Dates: Monday, August 21st to August 30th

Morning (7:40 to 8:00) and Afternoon (2:10 to 2:20) kdstrayer at adelphia.net



2.  Volunteers Needed for Back-to-School Packets

Please contact Michelle Caldwell (978-3867; wcaldw5050!@aol.com) to assist
putting together the student Back-to-School packets. This is a great job for
those High School students who need volunteer hours. Please pass this
message along to your High School friends and neighbors.



3.  Sales Tax Holiday - August 4th to August 6th

A Sales Tax Holiday is a temporary period when certain purchases are exempt
from the sales tax.  In 2006, the General Assembly approved Virginia's first
Sales Tax Holiday, to take place each year on the first full weekend in
August.  In 2006, the Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday,
August 4, 2006 and end at midnight on Sunday, August 6, 2006.
During Virginia's Sales Tax Holiday, purchases of school supplies selling
for $20 or less per item, and articles of clothing, including footwear,
selling for $100 or less per item, will be exempt from sales tax. All
retailers selling these items MUST participate in the Sales Tax Holiday.
Sales tax exemptions do not apply to items selling for more than the amounts
listed. Retailers may also choose to absorb the sales tax on other items
during the Sales Tax Holiday, but they are responsible for paying the tax
themselves to the Department of Taxation.

What is a Sales Tax Holiday?
! A Sales Tax Holiday is a temporary period when retail sales taxes are not
collectible or payable on all or a specific class of
purchases.

When is Virginia¹s Sales Tax Holiday?
! Virginia¹s Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, August 4,
and end at midnight on Sunday, August 6. In future years, the Sales Tax
Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. on the first Friday in August and end at
midnight on the Sunday immediately following.

What items will be exempt from the retail sales tax during Virginia¹s Sales
Tax Holiday?
! Sales tax will be suspended on school supplies costing $20 or less per
item, and clothing and footwear costing $100 or less
per article/pair.

Why is the Commonwealth having a Sales Tax Holiday?
! The Virginia General Assembly unanimously approved a Sales
Tax Holiday to help families with children in school and to help boost the
retail economy in Virginia, in general.
Who does the Sales Tax Holiday benefit?

! The Sales Tax Holiday benefits both consumers and
businesses in the Commonwealth.

Where is the Sales Tax Holiday applicable?
! The Sales Tax Holiday is applicable at any place of business in Virginia
that sells the items to be exempted during the three-day period.



4.  Informational Meeting on Forest Lakes/Hollymead Connector Road
Please take note . .  Informational Meeting on Connector Roads being
considered in Hollymead/Forest Lakes area as part of Route 29 North
Albemarle County planning process
 
Date:  Tuesday, July 25, 2006
Time:  7:00 pm    Location:  Hollymead Elementary School
Who is Invited:  All interested Forest Lakes and Hollymead  residents
Who is holding meeting: Ken Boyd, county supervisor, along with Mark Graham,
Director Community Development and the planning staff responsible for the
Route 29 Corridor (Places 29)
       
All interested residents are cordially invited to attend this meeting on the
proposed connector roads to be held on Tuesday evening, July 25th, at 7:00
pm at the Hollymead Elementary School.  Several connector roads running
parallel to Route 29 and crossing Ashwood Blvd and Hollymead Drive and then
terminating on Timberwood Blvd. are under consideration. Also under
consideration is a connector road from the far end of Ashwood Blvd. to Polo
Grounds Road.
 
The meeting will allow provide residents an excellent opportunity to learn
and express comments about the options being considered  by your county
supervisors and the county staff directly involved in the planning process
for the Route 29 North corridor.
