Today the school system released a summary of its Funding Request. You can
view this information at:

?sectiondetailid=14931
As quoted in this release:
³The School Board¹s Funding Request assumes the county property tax rate, wh
ich generates most local revenue, will not change.
The Board of Supervisors recently placed $0.02 of the current tax rate in re
serve for a possible tax break for residents or for other
purposes. A cut in the current tax rate will reduce the funding to the Scho
ol Division by slightly more than $1.9 million. Should the
Board of Supervisors reduce the current tax rate, the School Board must make
a proportionate cut to its Funding Request.²
Given this possibility, you might consider asking your School Board
representative where these cuts would be made. Alternatively,
you might want to offer suggestions as to where you think they should be
made. The link to the School Board Members can be found at:

The Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on its budget proposal, w
hich includes the allocation of funding for the School
Division, on March 7 and April 4. Both public hearings begin at 6 p.m. in La
ne Auditorium in Albemarle County Office Building at
401 McIntire Road in Charlottesville. The School Division will present its F
unding Request to the Board of Supervisors on March 14.
