1.  Baker-Butler Yearbook

We will producing a yearbook again this year. Order forms will be coming
home next week and will be distributed via this email list. This cost will
be $19.95 and payment must be included with the order which is due by
February 5th. If you need financial assistance in purchasing this yearbook,
please contact Mr. Hammon.
The yearbook will be a softcover book with 52 full color pages. Grades K to
5 will be included.

We also need help in creating this yearbook. Each classroom will need a
parent volunteer to help obtain digital images of each student in the class
and then work with the yearbook staff to compose a digital layout. For more

2.  Comment on Proposed School Budget for 2007-08 ­ Wednesday, January 31,
2007

The school superintendent presented her funding request to the school board
on Wednesday, January 17.  The School Board will receive public comment on
the proposed budget on WEDNESDAY JANUARY 31 @ 6pm in the Lane Auditorium of
the County Office Building.

3.  Community Forum on Diversity

A community forum on diversity will be taking place in the Baker-Butler
Elementary School Cafeteria on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 from 6:30 to 8:30
pm.

Parents, School Employees and Neighbors are invited to join us for the third
of four community forums designed to build our “cultural competency.”
Cultural competence is a set of attitudes, skills, behaviors and policies
that allow an individual or organization to increase their understanding and
appreciation of cultural differences and similarities. It involves using
knowledge of education-related beliefs, attitudes and practices to improve
student achievement.  At the January 30th Community Forum, participants will
work with local experts and continue our courageous conversations by:

? Viewing a CNN video on racism in America and discussing the topic from the
national and local perspectives;
? Learning about Albemarle County’s changing demographics and how
discrimination incidents, including recent incidents in our neighborhoods,
are handled by the schools;
? Hearing how high school students perceive racism in our schools and its
impacts on their learning; and,
? Learning about practical tools for making change and talking as a
community about how parents, school and community leaders can use them
effectively.

4.  Baker-Butler Elementary School’s 5th Annual Talent Show, Friday, Feb.
16th, 2007 - 6:30 pm

BOYS AND GIRLS (MOMS AND DADS)
It’s time for our fifth annual talent show. This year’s show will provide a
lot of excitement as we continue the tradition of fun from our Baker-Butler
“Entertainers”.

The following are the scheduled times:

    Tues., February 13th Grades K-2 Rehearsal 6:30 pm ­ 7:15 pm
    Grades 3-5 Rehearsal 7:15 pm ­ 8:15 pm
    
    Thurs., Feb. 15th DRESS REHEARSAL 6:30 pm
    
    Fri., Feb. 16th TALENT SHOW!!! 6:30 pm
    
A couple of guidelines for the show:
1. Each act must arrange for their own accompanist.
2. PARENTS ­ I need your help; please sign up on the attached sheet.
3. I’m open to suggestions ­ I want this to be fun for everyone.
4. Come to rehearsals ready to do your act.
5. STUDENTS ARE TO PARTICIPATE IN ONE ACT ONLY / Each act is limited to 2 ½
min.
6. We encourage singing, please no lip-synching.
7. Please make sure acts are age appropriate.
8. Enjoy!!!

Please send in the attached sign up sheet by February 2, 2007.
