Cultural Diversity Celebration TONIGHT!
Please remember to join us at Sutherland on Tuesday, January 15 for our
first Cultural Diversity Celebration. The evening will feature musical and
dance performances and workshops, special displays, and food samples. You
can see an origami demonstration, participate in a drumming workshop, enjoy
step dancing, a jazz performance, and a judo performance. Best of all, you
can join other members of our community in celebrating the richness of the
many contributions to our overall community. The celebration is scheduled
for 6:00 8:30. Please come when you can for as long as you can.
Many thanks to the Baker-Butler, Hollymead, and Sutherland community
volunteers and the Albemarle County Public Schools Office of Community
Engagement!

Albemarle County Schools Recognized by Governor Kaine
The following is an email sent out to the schools by Dr. Moran:
I was notified yesterday through a press release that Western Albemarle High
School is recognized by Governor Timothy Kaine as one of 89 public schools
in Virginia to receive the Governor¹s VIP Award for Educational Excellence.
This award is new and a result of the Governor¹s efforts to recognize
schools in which significant numbers of students are achieving high levels
of competency across multiple achievement measures including:
1) federal and state achievement benchmarks
2) percentage of students achieving advanced levels on Standards of
Learning assessments
3) enrollment in college-level courses
4) attainment of advanced diplomas and career and industry
certifications.
Western Albemarle joins Murray Elementary School in achieving this
prestigious level of performance.
In addition, the following schools achieved the Virginia Board of
Education¹s VIP Excellence Award, the second tier in this new program to
honor schools and school divisions. These schools are: Albemarle High
School, Murray High School, Baker-Butler Elementary, Crozet Elementary,
Hollymead Elementary, Meriwether Lewis Elementary, Cale Elementary, Red Hill
Elementary, Scottsville Elementary, Stone-Robinson Elementary, Stony Point
Elementary and Woodbrook Elementary.
Albemarle County Public Schools was recognized as one of nineteen school
divisions in Virginia to receive the Governor¹s Award for Education
Excellence.

Congratulations!
 Pam Moran
 Superintendent of Schools
