PTO Meeting
March 11, 2008 @ 7:30 PM
Media Center
 
Welcome, Call meeting to order- Hope Wood
Approval of Minutes from the February 5, 2008 meeting
Treasurer¹s report (current financial statements handed out) - Beth Bushell
Only 2 teachers did not turn in requests for incidental reimbursement
Hospitality funds of $1,000.00 should get Betty Sharp through this school
year
State Farm grant awarded to the 5th grade for their field trip (Marie Dyer
applied for this grant)
A miscommunication occurred; Heidi White was NOT notified of the change this
year regarding PTO covering the costs of drinks for students during SOL
testing. It was APPROVED to cover the cost of the water that was purchased
(approximately $50.00)
It was decided at the first meeting of the year to solicit drinks and snacks
from parents for the SOL testing. Hope will send Heidi White an email to
notify of her of this change before the next round of SOL tests in May.
Flyer and electronic notices to be sent out seeking donations of snacks and
drinks.
 
Old Business:
Book Fair to be held  April 14 to 18. Family Night is April 18th. Volunteers
needed.
Family Events-Marie Dyer
Indoor field day to be held in the gym to coincide with Book Fair Family
Night on April 18.
Pre paid pizza (plus some extra) and drinks will be available
Flyer will be sent home to solicit volunteers
Gym equipment can be used for the event
 
4th grade parents to host 5th grade graduation celebration, email to be sent
to 4th grade teachers regarding this matter.
 
Festival of the Book- PTO was not able to fund this request due to our
current financial standing. Ms. Mays and Mr. Cushman were able to find the
funds to cover the cost for the event.
 
By-law Committee Report
Deanna Nolan, Marie Dyer, Tom Pajewski, and Mr. Cushman met to review and
make recommended changes to the existing By-laws.
Copies of the By-laws with proposed changes were given out for review and
discussion.
The only addition made was to Article X, section 4: Any checks over
$1,000.00 require 2 authorized signatures.
The revised By-Laws were APPROVED.
 
Nominating Committee- Tom Pajewski
Still seeking interested parents to serve on the PTO board for the 08-09
school year. Contact him with any nominations.
Elections to be held May 13 at the last PTO meeting of the school year.
 
Teacher and Staff Appreciation- Carolyn Smith
May 4 -8
Breakfast, lunch, and snack day to be held
Mail box treats, games, etc.
Volunteers needed
Water cooler being looked into as a possible gift for the teacher¹s lounge
 
Tax Advisor ­ We need to look into finding a long term solution. Ed Leary
has been graciously advising Beth about filing tax papers. We should find a
local business to take over this job.
 
Kindergarten registration ­ March 25
4 volunteers needed for each time slot 9-1 and 3-6
Set up PTO table, sell discount cards
Contact Holly Carden or Michelle Pajewski if you can help out
 
Dance Class approved to be a PTO sponsored activity
Initially to be held one day a week for 5 weeks
5th graders 1st , if there is still space available 4th graders can
participate
Class size will be limited to 30 students
The cost will be decided by instructor, Ms. Pietrosimone
 
Yearbook update: Deanna Nolan
Submitted
397 copies sold, 15 extras ordered
Only 1 5th grader did not order a yearbook, she may change her mind
Revenue from the yearbook sales to be used to enhance yearbook operations.
They would like to purchase camera cases ( for the camera donated by
Crutchfield), camera case for the yearbook camera, memory cards for the
donated cameras, 4th digital camera for field trips (similar to the donated
ones), as well as another good camera for indoor use.
Give Nanette DeFrank a list of needed items she can check with Jude
(Crutchfield)
 
4th grade fundraising events:
Chick Fil A Night- April 21
IPOD NANO (donated by Crutchfield) raffle
 
5th grade fundraiser: Baker-Butler t-shirts with the names of the graduating
students on back, sell only on 5th grade level or school wide?
 
 
Mr. Cushman wants to start a new school wide system for funding requests
 
Next meeting will be May 13 @ 7:30 PM in the Media Center
