Dear Broadus Wood Parents:
The following letter from an Albemarle High School parent does a fine
job of reiterating the importance of making certain that the Board of
Supervisors (BOS) fully funds the School Board’s proposed budget. Please
read it, and then take a moment to call or email BOS members (addresses
and phone numbers are listed below). And if possible, attend tonight’s
BOS meeting at 6 p.m. in the Lane Auditorium of the County Office
Building. Thank you!
The Broadus Wood PTO.
Hello AHS Families,
I normally do not express my personal opinions via the Patriot Progress,
but on this issue I am going to make an exception. I hope that many of
you share my views.
The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors will soon be making final
decisions on their budget. The BOS is considering tax cuts of up to 6
cents per $100 assessed property value. What this would mean to the
school budget is that the School Board would need to cut approx
*$6,000,000* out of the budget.
The proposed cuts may seriously impact your children’s schools by
cutting programs, teachers, support staff, salaries, reducing athletics
and extra-curricular activities, reducing transportation for regular
education students, and reducing fine arts programs. I personally feel
that our class sizes are large enough, our teachers are currently
underpaid, many programs are under-funded and our facilities are in need
of upgrading. None of these problems are able to be corrected without
appropriate funding.
*_If you want quality Public Education in Albemarle County, PLEASE SHOW
YOUR SUPPORT NOW! _*
by letting the Board of Supervisors know to *PLEASE FULLY FUND THE
SCHOOL BOARD'S PROPOSED BUDGET*.*_ _*
I will be attending the BOS meeting on _Wednesday March 14 at 6pmin Lane
Auditorium of the County Office Building_ and I hope to see many of you
there. As of June 2007, I will no longer have any children in ACPS, but
I am still in support of full funding of the school budget. This funding
will not be possible with the proposed tax cuts, but I feel that quality
public education is worth the price. Like many of you, I really don’t
like to speak at these meetings, but I plan to do so anyway. This issue
is that important to me.
I hope you will show your support with your presence, your voices and/or
your emails & phone calls to the BOS (see below).
Thank you,
Carol Saller
AHS PTSO President

They have heard from so many citizens in support of tax cuts, that we
(the education community) really need to let them hear from us! They
need to know their tax cuts will negatively impact our students'
educational opportunities, ultimately impacting our entire community.
Contact me if you need additional information. Thank you for your
continued support and leadership !
