YOGA FOR KIDS


BEGINNER level yoga classes for children are being offered at Broadus  
Wood, by Priya Mahadevan. She has learnt yoga from the Iyengar school  
and from Swami Sivananda Center in New Delhi and has been practising  
it, on and off for over 18 years. Priya is also a classical Indian  
dance teacher and has always integrated Yoga poses and practice into  
her dance lessons as both arts involve balance of mind and body.

Besides the physical benefits of yoga, it can also help improve a  
child’s ability to focus, concentrate and listen. It can enhance their  
self-confidence and is a gentle introduction to self-discipline. Yoga,  
when practiced regularly, helps children growth in new and positive  
directions.

Participants will learn the following basic poses: mountain, triangle,  
half moon, warrior, tree, cat, camel, downward dog, cobra, child, big  
toe, cow face, etc.
They will also learn a few basic sitting and lying down twist poses.
Emphasis this session will be placed on learning the Surya Namaskar or  
the Sun Salutation along with breathing techniques.
All children will be supervised at all times but, as with any physical  
activity, if not done properly, yoga can cause injury.  A disclaimer  
statement has been provided for parents to read and sign, in the  
highly unlikely event that your child should suffer any injury.

There will be 8 classes, held Mondays after school: 2:40- 3:30 pm,  
starting Feb 11. Class schedule is as follows. Feb: 11, 18, 25. March:  
3, 10, 17, 24. 31
Fee for the session will be $60. Please make checks payable to Broadus

Class offered as enrichment at Broadus Wood Elementary school.

I further agree that, in consideration of my child’s participation in  
the Broadus Wood Yoga enrichment program, I hereby release the  
instructor, and all member of the school, its officers, directors,  
volunteers from any and all liability including but not limited to  
medical and other health care expenses, for any injury or damage to my  
child occurring during the times when he or she is participating in  
this program.
