PUBLIC HEARING CONCERNING COUNTY BUDGET
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 5, 2008 AT 6:00PM
COUNTY OFFICE‘S LANE AUDITORIUM
This meeting (as well as Wednesday, April 2nd’s on the final budget
and tax rate) allows the opportunity for citizen comment concerning
the full County Executive's Recommended FY 08/09 Budget. Anticipated
revenues for the schools now stand between $1.9 million and $2.3
million short of School Board submitted funding request. If the Board
of Supervisors maintains the current tax rate of $0.68 per $100
assessed, here are the specific targeted cuts for three tiers/
scenarios approved by the School Board on February 26. These
scenarios account for the following revenue projections:
Budget Scenario #1: no additional funding is forthcoming from local
government – big cuts include reductions in K-1 TAs and increased
middle and high school class sizes to reduce staff. This scenario
includes over $2.3 million in cuts or reductions.
Budget Scenario #2: approximately $849,000 is approved by the Board
of Supervisors as a transfer from the capital improvements project
(CIP) fund. This means that some projects will be delayed in the CIP
plan. However, the reductions listed above do not need to occur.
This scenario includes about $1.4 million in reductions or cuts.
Budget Scenario #3: approximately $849,000 is approved by the Board
of Supervisors as a transfer from the capital improvements project
(CIP) fund and an additional $900,000 is provided for school division
needs by the Board of Supervisors. In this scenario, all reductions
except for $500,000 are eliminated.
For greater detail on these three scenarios, please open the attachment.
