PTO MEETING APRIL 16: HOW TO SPEND PTO FUNDS
The PTO is seeking suggestions for our 2008-2009 gifting to the
school. With a year of several successful PTO fundraisers, the
Brownsville PTO expects to have approximately $15,000 to give back to
the school to support extra-curricular activities and to purchase
classroom materials and supplies. If anyone has suggestions for this
year's spending, please send your ideas to John Herrmann at herrmannjohn at praintl.com
or provide them to Principal Vining before the April 16 meeting.
The general goals of our gifting program and individual spending
proposals will be discussed at the April 16 PTO meeting. Those
wishing to endorse specific proposals will be given 5 minutes each to
present their suggestions. Following the April meeting, the PTO
executive board will prepare a gifting proposal to be voted upon by
the PTO membership at the May 7 meeting.
At the April 16 meeting, the Nominating Committee will present a slate
of proposed officers and committee chairs for the 2008-2009 school
year. Election of next year's leadership will be at the May 7
meeting. Please join us for the April and May PTO meetings. All
meetings are in the school library and begin at 6:30. Babysitting is
provided.
RISING 6th GRADERS: SUMMER OPPORTUNITY - JOURNEY THROUGH HALLOWED
GROUND
Students are invited to move through history this summer as they hike,
bike, canoe, and pod along the Journey Through Hallowed Ground, the
175 mile swath of land from Gettysburg to Monticello. This Extreme
program introduces participants to Where America Happened as they
study the legacy of leadership provided by men and women along the
trail and the decisions they made that shaped our nation. What hung
in the balance as James Madison’s contemporaries deliberated over the
Constitution? What did George Gilmore gain by staying in the south
after the Emancipation Proclamation? Was Clara Barton out of line on
the battlefield? Students answer these and other questions as they
work with expert historians including authors, re-enactors,
cartographers, professors and archaeologists who bring authenticity
and depth to the experience. Throughout the journey, students capture
the stories using video, i-Pods and digital cameras. The photographs,
video clips and sound bites are then spun into an original vodcast
that focuses on the lessons of leadership from each site and how we
can apply those lessons to our contemporary world. For more
information on sites and activities, visit http://
www.hallowedground.org or e-mail mailto:education at jthg.org.
