MUSIC ADVOCACY FOR WESTERN FEEDER SCHOOLS

Are you interested in supporting music in Albemarle County’s Western
Feeder Patterns Schools? Do you want them to be nurtured and grown?
If so, a local parent wants your name! Nancy Paulson is looking to
establish a grassroots advocacy group to support music in the Western
Feeder Pattern of ACPS, and welcomes your thoughts, comments, ideas,
and advice.

To see what other communities have accomplished and to look at some of
the issues, Paulson offers information from the following websites:

An organization called Support Music provides advice, information,
templates, and resources for forming a music advocacy group.
Information can be viewed at: http://www.supportmusic.com/
The Wallace Foundation has many articles/studies related to arts
education on their website at http://www.wallacefoundation.org/Pages/default.aspx
. Two studies are directly applicable: “Revitalizing Arts Education
Through Community-wide Coordination” and “Gifts of the Muse: Reframing
the Debate About the Benefits of the Arts”.
Any student, parent, musician, music lover, teacher, or community
member who shares a commitment to strong performing arts offerings in
the Western schools and is interested in joining voices in the overall
advocacy for these programs may contact Nancy Paulson at the_paulsons at comcast.net
  or at 295.3072.
