HENLEY-BOUND? PROPOSED SCHEDULE CHANGES

A parent information meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 26 at 7
pm in the Henley Library to discuss students’ Language Arts (L.A.)
schedules next year. Henley would like to offer double blocked
(daily) L.A. for Advanced Honors students. This change would have an
impact on electives. Exceptions could be made for those students
taking band and foreign language who may not have room in their
schedule for double blocking L.A. Other options (split blocks, more
daily blocks with shorter classes, and greater integration of writing
and other L.A. skills in electives) may be considered. Decisions will
be made in February.

FREE TELEVISION AND ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT

Did you know that the average television contains over 6 pounds of
toxic materials? In anticipation of the switch to digital TV signals,
several local groups are hosting a FREE Television and Electronics
Recycling Event. The event will be held rain or shine from 9am to 3pm
on Saturday, January 31, 2009 in front of Crutchfield at the Rio Hill
Shopping Center (snow date Saturday, February 7). Televisions
computers, monitors, computer equipment, office and business
equipment, media, and batteries will be accepted by Richmond’s AERC
Recycling, who will process the electronics here in the U.S.,
compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations. AERC
Recycling has a “Zero-Waste-to-Landfill Policy” and signed the E-
Stewards pledge to abide by the e-waste recycling guidelines of the
Basel Action Network, currently the highest standard. For more
information and a detailed list of what will be accepted, visit http://www.albemarle.org/release.asp?ID=11737&releases=current
