ACPS COMMUNITY AND PARENT SURVEYS
To: Albemarle County Parents
From: Pam Moran, Division Superintendent
Re: Community/Parent Survey
During the week of May 4, a survey has been put online for all
community members and parents. The purpose of this survey is to
determine how well our schools are meeting Albemarle County students'
needs for quality education. Your assistance in completing this
survey is deeply appreciated, as the data we receive will be used to
help Albemarle County Schools continue to improve.
The survey is available on the Albemarle County Public Schools home
webpage, http://www.k12albemarle.org
COMMUNITY AND PARENT SURVEYS
I did want to assure you, however, that a hard copy of the survey will
be available at each school office and in room 329, the Support
Services office at the County Office Building. You may also request a
copy to be sent to you by calling 296-5877. Your assistance in
completing this survey is deeply appreciated, as the data we receive
will be used to help Albemarle County Schools continue to improve.
Thanks again for your time and support and I hope that you and your
children enjoy a rewarding ending to the school year.
IS MUSIC IMPORTANT IN OUR CHILDREN’S EDUCATION? SIGN THE PETITION!
PASS IT ON!
Did you know that both the choir and band directors at Henley are
retiring this year? Did you know that only one person might be hired
to handle all bands and choirs at Henley, as has been the practice at
WAHS in recent years? In a blink, your children will be heading to
Henley and WAHS. A group of concerned citizens has started a
grassroots advocacy group, Music Matters, that supports and campaigns
for outstanding programs for band, choir, and orchestra in our
schools. Please see this petition and consider signing and passing it
on to others:

PTO MEETING NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT: MAY 12 AT 6:30PM

our upcoming activities and events. Babysitting is provided.
DON’T MAKE US BEG! ONLY FOUR PTO COMMITTEE SPOTS LEFT TO FILL!
Stretch those leadership skills and flex your people power! We need
leaders! Will you do it?
Evening Event: Will likely happen in February. A big spring
fundraiser. Will be held off-site, requires coordination of food/
drink/a few large raffle items, karaoke?, ticket selling, promotion,
etc. Good for an event planner personality.
Family Game Night: Usually held in February, same night as the Chili
Supper. Format is up to the planner, but can include games from
Teacher’s Edition and Bingo is fun too! This is a fun, well-attended,
low stress event.
Fun Fair: Happens end of May/early June. A big spring fundraiser.
There’s lots of documentation of past events, which helps in the next
year’s planning. Involves gathering sponsorships and coordination of
volunteers and games. Can be run by one highly motivated individual
or by a small team of friends.
Science Day: Help coordinate the school wide Science Day, usually in
the spring. Each grade highlights their curriculum’s science
projects, and presentations are made within classrooms. Involves
collaborating with Brownsville teacher and organizing volunteers. No
science experience/knowledge needed to coordinate this event.
Two other ways you can help:
Our Welcome Back Picnic! Johannah Dottori and Kelly Gobble are
already planning a fun school wide welcome back picnic for Friday,
August 28. Help them plan the event this summer and carry out this
terrific way to start the school year!
Are you computer savvy and detail oriented? Every fall the PTO needs
help entering information into our system for the BEE Program and for
the School Directory. You can do this work at home on your computer.
If you are willing to help, please contact Joanne Meier at jmeier at ericmeier.net
FUN FAIR SLATED FOR FRIDAY, MAY 29!
This year’s theme is It’s Tike Time. We need many people to make this
year’s event a success. PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FLYER RECENTLY SENT

A BIG THANK YOU to Charlottesville Oral Surgery & Dental Implant
Center, for being a Fun Fair sponsor!
