PTO Open House This Tuesday
Please mark your calendars for this Tuesday, October 24 at 7:00 PM.  We will
be holding a PTO Open House that night in conjunction with the Book Fair’s
Parent Night.  We hope to see many of you there!!
Open House Schedule:
5:30 – 7:00 PM
?          Visit the Book Fair in Room 214.
?          See the latest art work produced by Burley students.  Try to
guess which pieces currently hang in Ms. Howard’s and Mr. Granger’s offices.
You’ll see Dreamworlds, Self Portraits, Sign Language Drawings & you’ll find
out about Artsonia!
?          Visit Ms. Cutright (Room 223) for information about the European
trip and/or Gifted Services (starting at 6 PM).
At 7:00 PM, Join us in the Auditorium for a PTO Update:
?          Informational discussions about EXPO Night’s Silent Auction and
The Burley Bear Market
?          Update on recent and future PTO events
?          Who’s Who in Your PTO – We Need YOU!
?          Plus additional discussion items:
?          Evening meetings – would you come?
?          If so, what do you want to talk about?
?          Internet safety?
?          Bullying?
?          Cafeteria food?
?          Adolescent behavior issues?
And finally

?          Mrs. Howard’s State of the School Address

Art News from Ms. Dean
Dear Parents,
You now have an exciting opportunity to turn your child’s art into unique
gift! Please visit www.artsonia.com <http://www.artsonia.com/>  and then
search by our zip code 22903 to have Burley pop up. This is a fundraising
site where parents can purchase their child’s artwork on a t-shirt, mug, etc
and 15% comes back to the school to support our Art Department.  With the
holiday’s coming up, this is a great site for special gifts for grandparents
and other family members!
The Burley Art Club is up and running.  The club meets every Wednesday
before school starting at 8:00 AM. Our first art club meeting was this past
Wednesday, the 18th and it was a huge success!
Please make sure you pick up the most recent copy of the Art Newsletter at
the PTO Open House Tuesday night!

Bullying Survey
The Bullying Prevention Committee at Burley will be sending out parent
surveys next week.  Please be on the look-out for these blue envelopes!  We
value our parents’ opinions of the climate at Burley, as well as your
insight to your child’s experience here.  These surveys are confidential,
and we ask that you fill one out for each child that you have attending
Burley.  Please return these surveys to the school as soon as possible so
that we can compile your feedback.
Volunteers Needed for School Picture Day
We need 4 parent volunteers from each grade level to help with Picture Day
next Friday morning, October 27.  Parents who volunteer will be given a free
picture package as a thank you gift.  If you can help, please contact Ms.
