Picture Day Volunteers
We need 2-3 parents who can come in this Friday from 11:00 – 12:40 to help
with the 8th grade pictures.  Parents who volunteer will be given a free
picture package as a thank you gift.  If you can help, please contact Ms.

PTO Open House Wrap Up
Many thanks to those who attended last night’s first (at least in recent
memory) evening PTO meeting. The following information on recent and future
PTO activities was presented:
*         The current PTO Officers introduced themselves.  There was also a
handout with the names and contact information for all PTO positions.  This
handout will be available in the school office.  The current officers are:

*         The PTO still has a few open positions, most notably the
President.  Until a President is found the PTO will work as an executive
committee, meeting approximately every other Wednesday at 8 AM in the Media
Center.  The next meeting will be on November 8th.  Other open positions
include VP Fundraising, VP School Community & Social Events, Staff End of
Year Luncheon Coordinator, EXPO Night Bake Sale Coordinator, EXPO Night
Silent Auction Coordinator, and Burley Bear Market Coordinator.
*         The Magazine Fundraiser raised about $9,000 for the school, which
is about what was raised last year.  Some additional funds may come in from
the Reach Out Booklets as well as the fundraising web site.
*         The School Directory has been printed and will be sent home with
students by this Friday – please make sure to check your child’s backpack!
*         The PTO has provided volunteers for the Magazine Sale, the Book
Fair, School Picture Day and two dances.
*         Several events are being planned that will need parent
involvement:  College & Career Night later this Fall; EXPO Night in
February; Teen Health Night in March; and The Burley Bear Market in May.

*         There will be organizational meetings for those interested in
helping with the EXPO Night Silent Auction and The Burley Bear Market.  Look
for those meetings to be announced in the near future.
There was a discussion about holding evening meetings.  The conclusion is
that the PTO should holding evening meetings on an occasional basis and tie
them into school events to help bolster attendance.  In addition to proving
an update on PTO activities, there was interest in having speakers at these
meetings on topics of interest to middle school parents such as Internet
safety.  Parents are encouraged to send their suggestions on topics to any
of the PTO Officers.
The meeting concluded with a very informative State of the School report by
Ms. Howard.  Overall the school is doing very well and adjusting to the many
changes it has experienced this year.
Food Drive
The 6th and 7th grade students are conducting a food drive.  Please send in
you non-perishable items by November 3rd.
