Fundraiser Ends This Week!
The final collection day for the magazine fundraiser is tomorrow (Thursday)!
So far we have raised about ½ of our fundraising goal, so please make sure
you turn your orders and payments in tomorrow. Many thanks to everyone who
has participated, we hope that this will be our most successful fundraiser
ever!
School Dance This Friday!
Yes! There -will- be a school dance this Friday, September 29!
Time: 4:15 - 7:00 PM
Place: The Burley Cafeteria
Cost: $3.50 per student
Music! Food! Fun!
This is for current Burley students only. Students are required to arrange
for a ride home immediately following the dance.
As many of you know, Mr. Jennings just brought home a kitten from the SPCA,
but can't decide what to name her! He's sponsoring a "Name That Kitten"
contest at the dance. The winner will receive four free tickets to the next
dance in October. Only entries submitted at the dance will be considered.
PARENTS: We need you! Adult supervision is key for an endeavor such as
this. Please come and help out for whatever amount of time you can spare.
Contact Mr. Jennings (434-295-5101 ext. 107, cjennings at k12albemarle.org) or
Andrea Pittman (Ajpaptyp at aol.com) at your earliest convenience."
Volunteers Needed
Ms. Wilson needs volunteers to help her class’ “Cultural Food Fest” on
Wednesday, October 4th. She will need 2-3 parents to help set up food in
room 214 during each class period. Please contact her at 295-5101 or
ewilson2 at k12albemarle.org <mailto:ewilson2 at k12albemarle.org> if you can
help.
Bullying Survey Coming in October
Be on the lookout for a blue envelope in the mail containing the Burley
School Climate survey for parents. As part of our bullying prevention
program, we want input from all parents. Please fill out this 1-page survey
for each of your children at Burley and return it in the postage-paid
envelope.
Box Tops and Tyson Labels “Hallow” Grams
Starting the first week of October we will start our first Box Top
collection. We will be “selling” Hallow Grams. Students can turn in a Box
Top or Tysons Label for a Hallow gram for delivery on October 31.
BoxTops, Tyson Foods & Campbell’s Labels: Burley is now linked to all three
of these programs, so please remember to clip your BoxTops off each General
Mills and affiliated products (each one is worth 10 cents!), clip and save
labels from Tyson products that feature the Project A+ logo (each one is
worth 24 cents!) and save your Campbell’s product labels to earn free money
for our school!

Summer Trip to Europe
Dear Students and Parents!
We are pleased to announce an exciting trip to London and Paris for next
summer, June 20 - 28, 2007. This trip, coordinated by Ms. Cutright and Mrs.
McElwee, has been arranged through EF Educational Tours.
We will fly out of Washington, D.C., directly to London. During a five- day
visit we will take a walking tour of London beginning on the River Thames
and ending at the chic Covent Gardens where we will enjoy street performers.
We will also see Hyde Park, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, the famous
Tower of London, Windsor Castle, and much more. We will spend a day touring
Oxford and Stratford and another day enjoying Stonehenge and Bath. We will
then ride a ferry across the English Channel and motor coach on to Paris.
In Paris we will see the Arc De Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame
Cathedral, the Louvre and stroll the streets of Paris. We will visit Monet’
s gardens at Giverny, tour Versailles, the elaborate palace of Louis XIV,
and much more!
We have chosen to travel the EF Educational Tours because they have been in
business for over 40 years and have offices around the world. They come
highly recommended and also guarantee the lowest prices for the highest
quality. The cost of the trip is $2,260 per student and $2,550 per adult.
This includes airfare, breakfast and dinner each day, hotel accommodations,
travel and tour expenses, and a full time EF tour guide. All payments after
the initial registration will be made directly through EF by phone, mail, on
online. EF does have a monthly payment plan. Participants will need
spending money and money for lunch each day.
If you are interested, please contact Ms. Cutright to receive a registration
form. Complete the registration form and enclose $50 (part of the price
previously mentioned) with a check made out to Burley Middle School. This
check will be used to cover the cost of a Charter Bus to take us all to
Dulles Airport and then return us to Charlottesville. Please give the
registration and check to Ms. Cutright in room 223.
Need more information? You may call Ms. Cutright at school (295-5101), at
home (973-2920) or e-mail her (jcutright at k12albemarle.org ).
