from 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. for all of our volunteers this school year. If
you have helped out with any school related event, then you are invited!

Author Visiting Burley
Renowned author, Sharon Draper, is coming to Burley on April 24th to speak
with each grade level about her books and how writers become authors. She
wrote Battle of Jericho, Tears of a Tiger, Forged by Fire, Romiette and
Julio, Darkness Before Dawn and many more
.check out her website at
HYPERLINK "http://sharondraper.com/"sharondraper.com if you have time. We
have been anticipating her visit for about 1 ½ years and are very excited
about having her come speak to our students. Please contact Ms. Severs at
295-5101 for more information.
Attention Parents of Burley Marching Band Members!
The Dogwood Parade is fast approaching and Mrs. Allen needs volunteers to
help sort and size the marching band members for their uniforms ASAP. The
marching band meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 9:40 a.m.,
Wednesdays before school, and during class time (from 1-2:30 p.m.). (It goes
much more efficiently if there are 3 volunteers for each day, but we will be
happy with what we can get)!
Mrs. Allen also needs volunteers for the actual Parade Day on Saturday,
April 21st from around 7:30-2:00. We will start at Burley and help the kids
get organized, dressed, and onto the bus. We will also need about four
parents to meet Mrs. Allen and the band at the parade location and will walk
with the band during the parade. We will need one or two big automobiles to
help transport drumline equipment. The more volunteers the better!! Please
contact Susan Allen at 295-5101 or e-mail: HYPERLINK

Safety In Our Schools Forum
Parents, students and school neighbors are invited to join Albemarle County
Public Schools and Albemarle County Police Department representatives for a
forum about safety in our schools. A series of disruptive bomb threats in
our Western Feeder Pattern schools in late March has provided us with an
opportunity to talk as a community about safety.
The forum will include:
* A presentation titled, Are Schools a Safe Place for our
Children?, from Dr. Dewey Cornell, the nationally recognized director of
the Virginia Youth Violence Project at the University of Virginia
* Brief presentations from school and law enforcement
representatives about school safety plans, practices and responses
* Table talks on school safety topics
* A questions-and answers session with a panel of school, law
enforcement, parent and media representatives
