Welcome From Principal
Parents & Guardians:
Burley has had a great opening of school.  The Faculty & Staff look forward
to an exciting school year.  Our primary goal is that every student achieves
success each day and this will be reinforced through a positive and safe
environment.
Thank you for your continued help and support,
Marcha Howard
Early Dismissals
We realize that certain appointments for your child cannot be scheduled to
avoid lateness or leaving early.  However, please keep in mind, when
students leave before 4:00 p.m., and a secretary has to call into a
classroom, it creates a disruption for the other students in class.
Sports League Information
This is an awesome link with sports league information for parents!

Special Needs Events & Information
Special Education Parent Survey
VDOE, through the VCU Partnership for People with Disabilities, is
conducting a second survey of parents of students receiving special
education services.  The survey covers the school year 2006 – 2007.  I have
attached a PDF version – if you cannot access the attachment but would like
to participate in the survey call Dawn Machonis toll free at 1-866-647-8547.
Consumer Satisfaction & Stakeholder Feedback Survey
Constituent input is vital to improving the Virginia Board for People with
Disabilities’ advocacy, outreach, training, funding, and other activities.
Public comments guided the development of the Board’s 2007-2011 State Plan
and will significantly influence the 2008 edition of its Biennial Assessment
of the Disability Services System in Virginia.  The Board encourages
individuals with disabilities, their families, service providers,
policymakers, advocates, and other concerned citizens to complete its 2007
Consumer Satisfaction & Stakeholder Feedback Survey at HYPERLINK

Survey regarding health care transitions for individuals with Down syndrome
This research is being conducted by Megan Lohr, a medical student at UVA, as
part of a Generalist Scholars Program thesis.  The purpose of this research
is to gain a better understanding of the experiences of individuals with
Down syndrome (11 – young adult) and their families with regard to the
transition from pediatric primary care to adult primary care medicine with
the goal of identifying ways in which healthcare providers can improve the
transition process for their patients with Down syndrome.
This research consists of survey questions addressed to the parents of
adolescents and young adults with Down syndrome and the adolescents and
young adults themselves.  The surveys are intended to be completed online,
though paper versions can be provided for those without Internet access.
When completed online, the surveys are anonymous.   If completed in print,
every effort would be made to ensure anonymity for participants.  The
research has been approved by the UVA Social Sciences Institutional Review
Board.  The surveys can be accessed online at HYPERLINK
"http://www.people.virginia.edu/~mel5b" \nwww.people.virginia.edu/~mel5b.
The print versions of the survey introduction and survey questions are
attached as well.  If you have any questions or would like more information
about this research, please contact Megan Lohr at HYPERLINK
"mailto:meganlohr at virginia.edu" \nmeganlohr at virginia.edu or by phone at
(434) 987-0329.
Announcing the Virginia Special Education Network
Obtaining accurate and timely information about special education issues in
Virginia is often frustrating.  To address this challenge, the Virginia
Board for People with Disabilities and State Special Education Advisory
Committee (SSEAC) are collaborating to create a grassroots communications
network to more effectively and efficiently distribute this information.
The network’s formation is particularly timely and urgent.  Early this fall,
revised Virginia Special Education Regulations will be presented for public
comment.  The Board and SSEAC want to ensure that their constituents are
fully informed of this process and have every opportunity to contribute.  To
participate in the network, go to HYPERLINK
"http://www.vaboard.org/vsenform.htm"http://www.vaboard.org/vsenform.htm.
Fill in your contact information, especially your e-mail address, on the
response form and return it by e-mail, fax, or mail as indicated to begin
receiving special education and other related disability information.

their families, school and university professionals, and others in the
Internet community.  The new website provides a clearer structure and
simplified navigation.  Improved search functions make finding HEATH
Resource information easier than before. Users of the site will benefit from
the improved navigation menus, the added features of RSS Feed subscription,
