EXPO Night Weather Plan
We are currently waiting to see just what the weather brings to decide about
postponing EXPO Night.
*         If the schools are closed on Thursday then we will be holding EXPO
Night on our snow date, Tuesday, February 27.
*         If we have school on Thursday we will announce no later than noon
Thursday our decision on whether to postpone or go ahead with the event.
This decision will be announced via this e-mail list and through the
school, as well as on AM1070 WINA.
Clearly, if the weather we get over the next 24 hours is not that bad we
will make this decision sooner rather than later.
No matter what we decide, everyone should be prepared for EXPO to be held
this Thursday, whether you are contributing to the bake sale, the grade
level baskets or volunteering to help.  Please be ready for EXPO!
Attention 7th & 8th Grade Parents:  Why Come to EXPO?
If you are the parent of a 7th or 8th grader you may be thinking about not
coming to EXPO.  After all, your student isn’t performing so why not stay
home?  Please rethink your decision!!  EXPO is a great time for you to meet
informally with 7th and 8th faculty to get to know them better and discuss
how your student is doing in their class.  You will also be able to see 7th
and 8th grade work on display.  Finally, you don’t want to miss the Silent
Auction.  The Silent Auction and the fall magazine sale are the only two
fundraisers the PTO will conduct this year.  We also have several very nice
items (see below) for you to bid on that you don’t want to miss.  So please
come out and enjoy EXPO night (we’re fixing dinner for you, too!) even if
your student isn’t performing and help support our school.
Band Volunteers Needed for EXPO Night
We desperately need Parent Volunteers to help with the Burley Band before
and during EXPO Night!  We still need parents to monitor the band room from
4:00 – 5:00 P.M. before EXPO begins.  This is a service Mrs. Allen is
offering to students (and their parents), so they can work on their
homework, eat dinner and get ready for the concert before the performance
rather than being ferried back and forth to school.  We also need volunteers
to help during the EXPO performance.  Please contact Mrs. Allen at:
sfallen at k12albemarle.org or Tracey Townes at ttownes at earthlink.net  or
434-975-2044 if you are able to volunteer.
Grade Level Basket Items Needed for Silent Auction
Please remember to send in your donations for the grade level baskets for
EXPO Night.  If schools are closed on Wednesday, we will still take
donations on Thursday.  Please bring them into school as early in the day on
Thursday as possible.
*        6th Grade Classes – Pet Lover’s Basket
(Possible donation items would include pet grooming tools, pet treats, pet
toys, etc.)
*        7th Grade Classes – Bath and Body Basket
(Possible donation items would include soaps, lotions, loofa, gourmet teas,
etc.)
*        8th Grade Classes – Movie Night Basket
(Possible donation items would include popcorn, candy, movies, etc.)

Incredible Silent Auction Items!
These are some of the best silent auction items we’ve had in years!  Come
join the fun on Thursday, February 15th to bid on some of the items that
have been generously donated by area businesses, parents, teachers and staff
of Burley Middle School.  The hours of the auction are from 5:00 – 7:00
P.M.  We will be located in the Media Center (Library).  Proceeds from the
auction will benefit Burley Middle School programs .
