EXPO Night Postponed
Given the extremely cold and icy conditions we have decided to postpone EXPO
until our snow date on February 27.  We apologize for any inconvenience this
causes.  Please help us get the word out by notifying any friends or
neighbors who might not get this e-mail notification.  We have posted this
closing on WINA and the local TV stations.  Messages will also go home with
students today at Burley as well as our feeder elementary schools.  EXPO
will be held on Tuesday, February 27 starting 5:00 P.M.  Again, thank you
for helping us get the word out on this decision.
No Double Parking
Dear Burley Parents and Guardians,
In an effort to help alleviate the double parking in front of the school
building we are offering the use of the parking lot behind the school (next
to the baseball field) for student pick-up beginning this coming Monday,
February 12.  All students not riding the bus will be released to the lower
parking lot at 4:00 pm.  Students who do not get picked up by 4:10 pm will
be escorted to the front of the building for their parents to pick them up
after hours.
As you know, our school hours run from 8:50 to 4:00 pm.  Since teachers are
not available for monitoring students before or after these times we are
asking parents to refrain from dropping off or picking up their child
outside of these hours.  Of course, if your son or daughter is involved in a
before or after school activity this does not apply.
On a final note, we have asked the City of Charlottesville to post signs
indicating that parking in front of the school on Rose Hill Drive be limited
to 5 minutes between the hours of 8am and 5pm.  This will allow enough time
for dropping off or picking up students without causing unsafe traffic
patterns.  While at this time no signs have been placed indicating these
changes, please respect this request to ensure the safety of our students.
Please also note that officers from the City of Charlottesville Police
Department will be outside the school during the pick-up time and will be
issuing tickets to anyone who double parks.
Thank you in advance for your help in alleviating our unsafe traffic
patterns.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to
call the school office.  Someone there will be happy to assist you.
Sincerely,
Mr. Douglas G. Granger
Assistant Principal
Budget Information Session
Learn more about the school superintendent’s budget and how it supports the
children in the Southern Feeder Pattern by attending an informational
meeting on Wednesday, February 21 from 7-8:00 P.M. at Walton Middle School.
Snow Make-Up Days
The current snow make-up days are February 20, March 22, June 7, 8 and 11.
Lacrosse League Information
There has been a little confusion on the differences between BMSLL(Boys
Middle School Lacrosse) and CAYLC (Charlottesville Area Youth Lacrosse
Club). We hope the following will help clarify!
Registration for BMSLL is still open and will end on 2/22/07.The website can
be found at HYPERLINK
"https://www.youthleaguesusa.com/orbit/lacrosse/000027/Welcome.html"
\nhttps://www.youthleaguesusa.com/orbit/lacrosse/000027/Welcome.html.
Registrations received after 2/22/07 will not be accepted.  All boys must be
a member of US Lacrosse to play in the middle school league.  You can
register for US Lacrosse using the on-line registration site.  The US
Lacrosse youth membership fee is $20.00 and covers 12 months.
Firm practice schedules and game schedules will be available on the BMSLL
website ( HYPERLINK "http://www.caylc.com/" \nwww.caylc.com) and will be
announced by the coaches as well.  Juniors (7th & 8th grade) will practice
two afternoons/evenings a week and the Midgets (5th & 6th grade) will
practice one afternoon/evening a week.  Each team does have the option of
scheduling one additional practice if they can find the appropriate field
space.  The regular BMSLL season will begin the weekend of March 25th.
Practices will start in late February.  With the expansion, each team may
have to travel to outside locations once or twice during the season.  This
may include having a game on a Saturday.  Darden Towe Memorial Park will
serve as the main location for games played on Sunday. If you have questions
about BMSLL please contact either Wendy Huber ( HYPERLINK

B9C02019C990E04?cmd=ComposeTo&adr=bmattiecdsdms%40aol%2Ecom&sid=c0"bmattiecd
sdms at aol.com).  No skills assessments are required for this league!!
When you visit the registration website you will also see the opportunity to
register for the Charlottesville Area Youth Lacrosse Club (CAYLC).  CAYLC is
a summer travel league that will be open to all skill levels this year with
the hopes of creating multiple teams for each age group.  CAYLC is separate
from the Boys Middle School Lacrosse League.  Skills assessments for
placement on a CAYLC summer team will be held on both February 18th and
February 25th on the Turf Field at St. Anne’s Belfield (if possible please
attend both days).
U-13 at 12:00pm
U-15 at 1:30pm
U-16/JV 3:00pm
To determine which team you should be trying out for and the location for
tryouts please visit the CAYLC website ( HYPERLINK "http://www.caylc.com/"
\nwww.caylc.com) for age cutoffs or contact Bob Mattie ( HYPERLINK
