SOL Testing Schedule
During the second week of January we will be administering the Virginia
Standards of Learning (SOL) tests to 6th grade social studies students, 7th
grade social studies students, and 8th grade social studies and science
students. Below is the current schedule for the test administrations:
Wednesday, January 10, 2007
* 8th grade Civics and Economics SOL in the morning
? 8th grade science students will be reviewing in the morning.
* 8th grade Science SOL in the afternoon
? 8th grade social studies students will be relaxing and taking a
science pre-assessment for next semester.
Thursday, January 11, 2007
* 7th grade US History 1877-Present SOL in the morning
? 7th grade science students will be taking a county-based end of
semester assessment.
Friday, January 12, 2007
* 6th grade US History Beginning to 1877 SOL in the morning
? 6th grade science students will be taking a county-based end of
semester assessment.
Students will be using computers to take the test on-line. They have been
introduced to the computer-based test format and can practice more with the
format from home by opening the Burley Homepage and downloading an epat
practice test. Students quickly became very comfortable with the format, and
we feel that students at Jackson P. Burley will be very successful with this
form of testing. We have continued to review the test-taking strategies that
students have been taught over the years and how these strategies transfer
to on-line testing, including specific use of the on-line button for review.
Please ask students to review any material their teachers have given them
for SOL review. Finally, try to ensure that students get a good night sleep
and eat a protein rich breakfast the actual day of testing.
Thank you for your support with our continued efforts for achievement for
all students. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns,

PTO Meeting
Please note that the PTO will be meeting this evening at 7:00 PM (a last
minute change to accommodate schedules) at the Liberty Café on Pantops. Our
apologies for making this last minute change.
Lost & Found
The Lost & found is at long last organized at least temporarily!! All of
the items have been sorted by type into marked boxes and have been placed on
the stage in the cafeteria, with the exception of the costs and jackets
which are now hanging up in the old lost & found closet. It will now be
much easier to find that sweatshirt/lunch box/jacket that has been missing
for a while.
We currently have one parent who is willing to come in and keep our items
organized, but we certainly need more folks who can do that. This would be
a great job for anyone who can commit to coming in for 15-20 minutes on
their own schedule every week or so and helping to sort new lost & found
items into the correct box and making sure that the box contents dont get
mixed up. Please contact Shelley Payne at 984-6862 or HYPERLINK
"mailto:shp33 at earthlink.net"shp33 at earthlink.net if you would like to work
with this group.
