Staff Appreciation Breakfast Donations Needed
This Friday is our annual staff appreciation breakfast.  Please contact
Darlene Davis ASAP at HYPERLINK

what you can bring.  We will need to feed about 60 folks, so everyone’s help
is needed!  Suggestions include:
*         Breakfast Casseroles
*         Muffins & Doughnuts
*         Bagels & Cream Cheese
*         Fruit
*         Juices
You can drop off items at school on Thursday or bring them in Friday morning
at 8 A.M., but please let Darlene know what you are providing so we can fill
in any holes in the menu.
Art Club Wins Award!
Art club recently entered their wall hanging in the c2d contest at McGuffey
Art Center.  We were so excited to hear that we had won an award at the c2d
contest.  When I arrived at McGuffey on Friday March 2, 2007 to accept our
award I was surprised to see that we had one an award for best in show for
Middle school and also a Teacher award for myself. The energy was high and I
got several wonderful compliments on the art from BAC (Burley Art Club). The
idea for this project turned out to be a large canvas approximately 8’ x 6’
of different places in Charlottesville. Each student thought of the one
place they would take someone to if they were new to Charlottesville. We
divided our large canvas into 20 squares. Each child first drew their ideas
on a piece of paper and then used a transferring technique of applying
graphite to the back of each picture to then apply their image  to the
canvas. Some children painted their images and some used markers to finish
them. The results were marvelous. The art will be hanging at McGuffey for
the month of March. When it comes back to Burley we will find a permanent
place to hang it---with our awards beside it. The library has a beautiful
blank white wall that might make the perfect home for BAC’s first
masterpiece! This contest is an annual event sponsored by artinplace.org.
