Magazine Sale Update!
Many thanks to everyone who has already participated in our fundraiser.
After our first collection day we have raised just over $4,000 towards our
goal of $10,000. Our highest selling classroom is Ms. Blackmans with Ms.
Sobieralski, Ms. McElwee and Ms. Hutchinson running close behind. It is so
important that as many families who can participate do so. Burley is facing
a severe budget cut this year, so every dollar that the PTO can raise will
be even more critical this year.
Remember our next collection day is this Tuesday, October 9th. Please make
sure that you turn in both your order forms and payment. Also, please
remember to keep the pink copy as your receipt. If you need more order
forms or white collection envelopes, they are available in the school
office.
Here are the prize levels for this Tuesday:
* For Every Order: Get a Hershey Bar (No Limit). Some of the
Hershey Bars are marked for cash!
* 4 Orders: Tunnel Lamp with Lanyard
* 6 Orders: Jumbo Universal Remote Control
Burley Book Fair October 17-24
The Annual Burley Book Fair will be held from Wednesday, October 17 to
Wednesday, October 24 in the Health Room (Room 220). The purpose of the
book fair is to promote reading and raise funds for library materials. Book
fair materials are from Scholastic Press.
Volunteers are needed to assist with this effort. The volunteer shift times
are as follows:
? During each school day from October 17- 23 from 9:30-11:30 (set
up on Oct. 17), 11:30-1:30 and 1:30-3:30
? Parent night for the book fair on Thursday, October 18 from
6:00-7:30 pm
? Repack/take down on Wednesday, October 24 from 9:30-11:30 (fair
is open 9:30-10:00).
The main duty is to serve as cashier and assist in making purchases; the
first and last shifts set up and repack the materials. We have a total of
17 shifts to fill. Please email Cheryl Cottrell at HYPERLINK
"mailto:cherylc at embarqmail.com"cherylc at embarqmail.com to volunteer for a
shift or to ask questions. Please include your 1st and 2nd choices for
shifts, your name and phone number. If you are available for more than one
shift, please indicate that as well. Cheryl may also be reached at
971-7178. Students should be bringing information on the book fair home on
Monday, October 15. Lastly, please support the book fair by purchasing
books!
Great American History Weekend Underway Now!
Please plan to attend the 11th annual Great American History Weekend to be
hosted on the front lawn of the Albemarle County Office Bldg. located at 401
McIntire Rd Charlottesville VA, Saturday and Sunday October 6 & 7th, 2007.
This is an excellent opportunity for students, teachers and families to
come out and enjoy American History at its best! This years program
promises some unique surprises and expands our historical impressions to
include many non-military displays. Come out and meet a young Mr. Patrick
Henry, See and hear one of only 10 remaining old time street organ grinders
and his monkey Miss Joy. Visit a World War II field hospital. Listen and
view the art work of a Vietnam Veteran that was a combat artist. Learn
about and see a one of a kind 19th century horse drawn funeral hearse.
Listen to the incredible music of The Albemarle-Charlottesville Pipes and
Drums. There will also be a K-9 demonstration and much, much more! DONT
MISS THIS ONE!!! All proceeds go to sponsor the Albemarle-Charlottesville
Youth Orchestra as well as to send aid to the family of Eric E. Sutphin, a
former Albemarle County Police Officer that was killed in the line of duty
on August 21, 2006 in Montgomery County VA.
