Bullying Prevention Committee Parent Members Needed
The Burley Bullying Prevention Committee is looking for a few parents to
join us! We want parent input on creating a safe school environment for all
students. Meetings are the first Tuesday of each month, from 8:30 10:00
AM. Please contact Julia Weed ( HYPERLINK
"mailto:jweed at k12albemarle.org"jweed at k12albemarle.org, or 295-5101, ext.
209) if you are interested in joining the committee that has helped Burley
become a model for the county in bullying prevention.
Medications for Students
Please remember if your child requires medication during the school day that
all medications need to be supplied by the parent along with a COMPLETELY
filled in permission form to be kept on file in the clinic. Prescription
Meds also require the signature of the prescribing Physician in addition to
the parents signature.
Substitute Nurses
We are in dire need of nurse substitutes. If you are a nurse (LPN, RN), and
might be interested, contact Human Resources in Albemarle County at
296-5827.
Were Going to Italy & Greece!
Burley is ready for its second annual international experience! We are
pleased to announce an exciting trip to Rome and Athens for next summer,
around June 12 - 20, 2008. This trip, coordinated by Ms. Cutright and Mrs.
McElwee, has been arranged through EF Educational Tours.
We will fly out of Washington, D.C., directly to Rome. In Rome we will
visit Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peters Basilica, the Roman
Forum and Coliseum as well as the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. After four
days in Rome, we will travel to Pompeii for a day and then take a night
ferry across the Adriatic Sea to Patras, Greece.
In Greece we will tour the towns of Olympia, Epidaurus and Mycenae before
taking a quick stop at the Corinth Canal and continuing on to Athens. In
Athens will see the Olympic Stadium, the Acropolis including the Parthenon
and Temple of Athena Nike, the Plaka District, Delphi, the Temple of Apollo,
and much more.
We have chosen to travel with EF Educational Tours because they have been in
business for over 40 years and have offices around the world. They come
highly recommended and also guarantee the lowest prices for the highest
quality. We were pleased with our overall experience with them last year.
The cost of the trip is $2,590 per student and $2,950 per adult. This
includes airfare, breakfast and dinner each day, hotel accommodations,
travel and tour expenses, an evening out to a Greek theatre, and a full time
EF tour guide. All payments after the initial registration will be made
directly through EF by phone, mail, or online. EF does have a monthly
payment plan. Participants will need spending money and money for lunch
each day.
We must have at least 12 students and/or adults sign up for the trip in
order to participate in this fabulous international opportunity. If you are
interested, please complete the registration form and enclose a $125 fee per
person with a check made out to Burley Middle School. This check will be
held until the minimum limit of 12 participants is reached. Then it will be
deposited to cover the cost of a bus to take us to Dulles Airport and return
us to Charlottesville as well as all tips needed in Europe. The check will
be returned if we do not meet the minimum number of students and the trip is
canceled. The check is not refundable once the trip is put in motion.
Please give the registration and check to Ms. Cutright in room 223.
Need more information? We will meet with interested parents following the
Back to School Night, 9:00 - 9:30, September 5 in the auditorium. You may
also e-mail ( HYPERLINK
"mailto:jcutright at k12albemarle.org"jcutright at k12albemarle.org) or call Ms.
Cutright at school (295-5101).
Hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Judy Cutright and Robin McElwee
