Lock Down Drill
Please note that Burley has scheduled a Lockdown Drill to occur sometime
this week (February 4-8).
Urgent Help Needed with Silent Auction
We are in desperate need of volunteers who can help solicit items for our
Silent Auction.  This is not as difficult as it may sound; you merely need
to make follow up phone calls to the businesses we mailed letters to.  You
don’t need any “high pressure” sale techniques, just a desire to help out
our school. Currently we have just a few people taking on this task and that
is not nearly enough, especially when we have over 400 families in our
school.
This is a great opportunity for those of you who can’t “come in” to
volunteer.  If you can make a few phone calls, please let Susan Walker know
at HYPERLINK "mailto:sjpwalker at gmail.com"sjpwalker at gmail.com.  Thank you!!
Golden Apple Awards
Sponsored by
Better Living Building Supply & Better Living Furniture
Richard L. Nunley, Chairman, is pleased to announce that Better Living
Building Supply & Better Living Furniture is sponsoring the 8th Annual
Golden Apple Awards for outstanding teachers from our school systems. These
awards are presented to faculty members from the public and private schools
in Albemarle County and Charlottesville City, including CATEC. Eligible
private schools are those that are members of the Virginia Association of
Independent Schools (VAIS).
The Golden Apple Award is a means of selecting and honoring some of our
outstanding teachers. Teachers are most important in nurturing our children’
s inquisitive minds and preparing them for the challenges of the future.
Nominate a teacher and show your appreciation and support!
Nomination forms are available from the local schools or online at HYPERLINK

The Golden Apple Award
One candidate is selected to represent their school and receives a Golden
Apple, as well as gift certificates from local businesses. As a “Golden
Apple” teacher, each candidate is then eligible to receive a Golden Apple
Grant ($1000). Grants are awarded to eight (8) candidates: 3 elementary, 2
middle, and 2 high school candidates of the public schools in Albemarle
County and Charlottesville City and CATEC, and to 1 candidate from the

(VAIS). The grant award is used to support the candidate’s continued
professional development.
