Teen Health Night This Thursday
Please make plans to attend our Teen Health Night this Thursday.  Come for
as little or as long as you like.  We will be starting at 5:30 and will have
4 ½-hour information sessions beginning at 6:00 P.M.  Here is a sample of
the topics we’ll cover:
*         Safe Surfing on the Internet – Deputy Kevin M. Sprouse, Albemarle
County Sheriff's Office
*         Poison Awareness for Parents and Teens – Sue Kell, PhD, Education
Director of the Blue Ridge Poison Center
*         Teens and Sleep – Gabriele Ford, RN, MSN, FNP-C, with the
Pediatric UVA Children's Hospital Sleep Disorders Program
*         Acne: Truths and Myths – Brett D. Krasner, M.D., Board Certified
Dermatologist, Family Dermatology of Albemarle
*         How to Talk to Your Child About Sexuality – Mary A. Sullivan,
M.Ed., UVA Teen Health Center
*         Proper Weightlifting Techniques – Trish Phillips, Director of
Fitness, Glenmore Country Club
 
Please spread the word on this event with your family and friends.  This
event is open to all parents in the community, not just Burley.  Also feel
free to bring your teens and tweens, too!

8th grader Jamie Criser auditioned for the enrichment group “Junior Regional
Orchestra,” and was placed in the top orchestra at the Junior Regional
Orchestra Festival in Roanoke on Friday, February 29.

April Is Alcohol Awareness Month! Let’s Talk About It.

Invited Guests and Panelists: Representatives from the Charlottesville and
Albemarle Public Schools, Charlottesville and Albemarle Commonwealth’s
Attorneys Offices, Albemarle County Law Enforcement, elected officials,
substance abuse prevention and mental health services community, University
of Virginia, Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, and Thomas
Jefferson Area Community Corrections. All representatives will be available
after the panel for an interactive question and answer session with the
audience.
Intended Audience:  Parents, educators, prevention specialists, government
officials, health professionals, social workers, law enforcement,
faith-based groups, local businesses, the University community, and anyone
else working with youth at risk for underage drinking! Students are welcome!

*         Mr. Jansen our PTO president and art club parent for showing his
support
*         Mrs. Dixon for offering to help even though at that point we were
just watching paint dry...haha! Your support was appreciated!
*         Mr. Kruger for lending a hand on Saturday
*         Mrs. Howard for letting us take over in such a way and having
total trust and faith in us!
*         Mr. Remesz for letting us paint his door...the kids loved that!!!!
 
Is this starting to sound like an academy award speech or what???... Except
I have nothing funny to say! As you can see from the list I did not do this
alone, I had tremendous support and I thank you all.
