Ms. Wilson is Golden!

A Golden Apple that is!  Congratulations go to Ms. Wilson for being Burley’s
Golden Apple Teacher this year!

8th Grade Celebration Dance – Volunteers & Donations Needed

Our 8th Grade Celebration Dance is one week away.  We have a wonderful
committee planning a terrific evening of fun for our 8th graders, but we
need your help!  We are hoping to raise $500 in donations to cover the costs
for this dance.  The DJ alone will cost $300, plus we plan on feeding pizza,
chicken tenders, subs, snacks and sodas to 160 hungry teenagers (plus a few
hungry chaperones, too), not to mention the decorations!  We don’t charge an
admission fee for this dance– all we ask is that 8th grade families send in
whatever donation they can afford.  Please send your donation in an envelope
marked “8th Grade Dance.”  Please make checks payable to the Burley PTO and
note “8th Grade Dance” in the memo section.

We are also looking for decorations!  We will have a Caribbean-based theme
this year, so we are looking for any items that can help create a Caribbean
harbor and beach as well as a coral reef.  Items include:  

·         tropical and/or silk plants and trees

·         wicker furniture

·         flowers (real or silk)

·         crates

·         fish nets

·         exotic fabrics and fruits

·         rugs

·         barrels

·         chests

·         tropical birds and/or fish (fake only, please! J)

·         anchors

·         pirate flags

·         beach umbrellas

 

We could even use a rowboat or two!  Please contact Shelley at 984-6862 or
shp33 at embarqmail.com if you can provide any of these items.

Finally, we need volunteers to help with:

·         painting and creating decorations (Tuesday – Thursday afternoons)

·         transporting decorations (large vehicles preferred and one pick-up
truck needed – Thursday afternoon)

·         setting up the cafeteria on Friday

·         chaperoning (Dads needed especially!)

·         cleaning up.

We Still Have Some Burley Bear “Bucks” Cards Left

So far we have sold 234 discount cards, however, that means we have quite a
few left.  These cards are a great bargain, that can pay for themselves in
just 1 or 2 uses.  If we sell all of them we will earn over $1,500!
However, we need to pay the vendor for all 300 whether we sell them or not,
so unsold cards will seriously impact our profits for this fundraiser.
Please make sure every wallet in your family has a card!
