8th Grade Dance Update

Many thanks to all the generous parents who are giving both their time and
talents to make this a terrific event for our 8th graders. However, we are
still looking for help in the following areas:

*	Painting: We are painting decorations Wednesday and Thursday
afternoons in the cafeteria starting at 2:00 P.M. We have the paint,
brushes and rollers, we just need warm bodies!
*	Decorations: We still need a trunk for a treasure chest, we'd also
love more palm trees (or any other silk plants), treasures for the treasure
chests, plus any Caribbean-themed items that will add color and fun!
*	Transportation: We need several large vehicles to meet at Covenant
(off 5th Street) at 1:45 Thursday afternoon to transport some large
decorations. We especially need a pickup truck!
*	Set-up: We will begin decorating at 9:00 AM Friday and will
continue through the afternoon - any and all are welcome!
*	Chaperones: We still need a few more volunteers to chaperone,
especially dads!
*	Clean-up: We need several more volunteers who can help clean-up
immediately following the dance as well as Saturday morning
*	Finances: Please don't forget to send in your financial donation -
every little bit helps!

If you can help in any of these areas, please contact Shelley Payne at
shp33 at embarqmail.com or 984-6862.

Don't forget that we will have a photographer at the dance. Sittings are $5
each and will be delivered to the school on June 4. Candids and extra
copies will be available for order from the photographers website at
suemartinphotography.com <http://www.suemartinphotographer.com/> .

Field Day Volunteers

Burley Field Day THIS Friday! Could still use a few more parent volunteers
in the afternoon, from 12-3 if you are able (michelebascle at embarqmail.com or
293-0604). Remember to send a few dollars with your kids that day. There
is a mix of activities, many of which need no money...so it will be fun for
all!

Burley "Bucks" Cards

If you haven't picked up your "Bucks" card yet, don't despair. Just stop by
the office, hand over your $10 and you'll get your very own Burley Bear
"Bucks" Card! We'll also have them for sale at the 8th Grade Awards
Celebration - the perfect souvenir from Burley that can actually pay for
itself! J

New Assistant Principal

Ms. Sharon Amato-Wilcox was appointed assistant principal of Jackson P.
Burley Middle School. For the last nine years, Ms. Amato-Wilcox has been an
elementary school principal in the Kyrene School District in Tempe, Arizona.
Prior to this, Ms. Amato-Wilcox was an assistant principal for six years, a
Special Education Assistant Director for 5 years, and an elementary and
middle school special education teacher. She will replace Doug Granger, who
will transfer to Agnor-Hurt Elementary School to be assistant principal.

Congratulations Mr. Granger, we'll miss you!

PTO Financial Support Recap

A big thanks to all members of the community for their fantastic efforts and
support in making J.P. Burley Middle School an outstanding educational
experience for the kids.

The hundreds of volunteer hours contributed made a direct positive impact in
the classroom, at school social activities, and for the various school
organizations.

Albemarle County Public Schools spends approximately $9,500 per student.
While this covers many of the basics, donations and fundraisers must many
times fund activities that enhance the educational experience. In addition
to the many parents and friends that have provided direct financial support,
many also participated in various PTO fund raisers.

This financial support has directly improved the education environment at JP
Burley Middle School. A list of the PTO funding for the Academic 2007 - 2008
is listed below.

Again, thanks for your support.

Best,

Jim Jansen
