Snowflake Program Update
All of the 6th-8th grade Burley snowflakes were adopted thanks to many
teachers, teachers' friends and family members, and the wonderful Burley
community. Some Burley siblings were not adopted, but those families
received grocery gift cards from the $365.00 that was given to the Snowflake
Program. Thank you all! Happy Holidays! -The Snowflake Program Committee
Yearbook Sales
Yearbook sales end this week. Forms are in the office and the cost is $31.
Concert Band/ 7th grade Strings/8th grade Wind Ensemble/Jazz Band Concert
The Burley Winter Instrumental Music Concert will take place at 7pm on
Thursday, December 10. All 7th and 8th grade band students are reminded to
arrive at 6pm for photos. All 7th grade string students are reminded to
arrive at 6:15 for photos. Parents of band students are kindly asked to
bring food to share at the reception following the concert. Please drop it
off in the cafeteria BEFORE the concert. Suggestions would be desserts,
cheese and crackers, finger sandwiches, fruit, veggies/dip, chips...
anything kids and parents would like. Punch will be provided so we don't
need drinks. If you could respond to Jackie Newton what you will be
bringing so that we can try not to have all of the same thing, that would be
helpful msnuisance at aol.com or 434-996-7614.
School Dance
The yearbook is sponsoring the Winter Dance on Friday, December 11 from 4-6.
Cost is $4.00. We are real need of chaperones! If you can help, please
contact Robyn Davis at Robyn.Davis at ccs.k12.va.us
LOST AND FOUND PICK UP
During the holiday band and chorus concerts on Thursday, December 10 and
Wednesday, December 16 respectively, there will be lost and found items
displayed in the hallway outside of the auditorium. Please stop by and
check these items to see if your child or children have lost anything.
There are many shirts, shorts, pants, sweatshirts, coats, and other items
that have gone unclaimed since the beginning of the year. These items will
remain on the table in the hallway around the corner from the auditorium
from now until Friday, December 18th. At the end of the school day on the
18th, the remaining items will be taken to Goodwill. The same thing will
happen at the end of second semester. We would certainly like for these
items to be returned to their rightful owners so please take a look if your
child or children are missing anything. If you have any questions, please
call Dianne Bressan at 295-5101.
ACPS Middle and High Schools to operate half-day modified exam schedule on
December 16-18
For the past three years, high schools in Albemarle County have delivered
their first semester exams prior to Winter Break on a modified half-day
schedule which included two exams per day. Last year, the program was
expanded to our five middle schools, which will be continued this year. All
middle schools will follow the half-day high school schedule as well. Many
middle school students take high school level classes, and all students
begin taking semester exams in their eighth grade year, so this change will
align those students with their high school counterparts.
Having both middle and high school students follow the same schedule will
save about $10,000 in operational efficiency for the county. The regular
middle and high school bus routes will run at 1:00 p.m., and drivers will
then return for elementary school routes at 2:20 p.m. Since most middle and
high school students ride the same buses, not combining their schedules
would have required a third bus run each day to bring middle school students
home at 4:00 p.m. "Grab and go" snack items will be served at the high
schools between the exams.
Burley students will be dismissed at 1:00 pm on those days and will be
served lunch prior to dismissal.

labels on General Mills products such as Cheerios,
Fiber One bars, Juicy Juice, and ZipLoc bags. Cut them out and put them in
the collection bin near the front office or ask your
children to turn them in at school. You can also go to
http://www.boxtops4education.com/ and enter JP Burley in one of the many
promotions that can earn thousand of dollars for our school. You can even
download some $1 off coupons at the website to use when you do your own
grocery shopping! Burley earned approximately $600 last year from the Top

year. Although good, there were schools in our area that earned over $2,000.
We can do better. We also collect Campbell's Labels for Education, which
appear on products such as Campbell's soups, V-8 products, Swanson products
