Good Morning, all!
Well, the robotics club email got such a response I figured I would send out
more requests for help as well. Here is a list of some of the Opportunities
for Excellence we hope to provide our students this year. Please know that
ANY child can participate in these opportunities; they are NOT limited to
identified students. Please also know the dates (and targeted grade levels)
for all of these have not been set, and we will certainly work with your
schedule if at all possible. :-) If you are interested in leading or
supporting any of these, please respond to me directly. Thanks!
Destination Imagination--in the past we have run this as an after school
club, but it is intended to be a problem solving team that competes. We
usually have 30-40 kids who want to participate and a team typically has
6-7 members. Corey Leland has led this club the past few years but is no
longer with us as a Crozet parent, so we are looking for a new leader. The
time commitment will depend on whether we offer it as a club or team
participation in the DI meet. Please contact me directly to express
interest.
Chess Club--Mark Green was the point person for this after school club last
year--but in his new role of assistant principal may not be able to add it
to his already overloaded plate. Is someone interested in securing
volunteers to help monitor the kids? This typically runs for 6-8 weeks and
is open to all interested students. Please contact me directly to express
interest.
24 Club--This will be headed up by Paula Dunsmore with Barbara Huneycutt's
support, and Paula would welcome volunteers. It is an after school math
club, based on the 24 game. Students who participate will compete to
represent our school in a regional event in March. Please contact Paula
directly if you are interested at pdunsmore at k12albemarle.org (And, please
know she is on vacation this week, so will get back to you later.) Open to
grades 3-5, probably.
Boomwhackers Club I will be the point person on this club. Boomwhackers
are plastic tubes that students play musically. Please let me know if you
are interested in helping me. I intend to target the early grades with this
club.
Writer's Eye--In late October/early November, our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders
will participate in a writing contest. We will need parents to help us type
student entries in a specific format required by the UVA Art Museum. This
can be done at home and emailed back to me--just let me know if you can give
us some time typing.
Thanks so much! More to come later, I am sure! :-)
