Social/Emotional Needs of Gifted Students

People who are gifted often exhibit certain traits that actually help define them
as gifted and/or occur because of their giftedness. These include:
?	Asynchronous/uneven development
?	Divergent thinking/different ways of thinking/feeling different
?	Increased sense of justice and fairness
?	Increased sensitivity to events and peoples’ plights
?	Intense feelings/passions/excitability
?	Perfectionism/avoidance of risk taking

Gifted students may have difficulty dealing with their great sensitivity, coping
with discrepancies in intellectual, emotional and social development, and finding
peers who truly understand and appreciate their unusual and advanced perceptions.

Tonight we’ll look at several of these areas in depth, sharing experiences, stories
and truths about our children. Please ask your questions, express your concerns
and share your ideas and knowledge. Join us as we explore this topic, looking at
identified gifted students.

Thanks!

Paula
