Many parents are deeply concerned that the County infrastructure is not keeping pace with the development of the Crozet Community. This includes schools; fire/rescue; public safety; utilities; roads, parking, & sidewalks.
Current Situation at Crozet Elementary:
* Addition of 35 students in FY 06/07 bringing it to enrollment projections for FY 07/08
* Shortage of classroom and building space at Crozet Elementary
* Unable to hold an all school assembly resulting in additional costs for assemblies
* Library's capacity is 49 people
* Cafeteria space is limited for larger student population and the acoustics do not lend themselves to larger numbers of students.
* Entire 5th grade is housed in trailers with no bathroom facilities
* Additional students can be expected as approved new housing units are built.
Goal:
To bring our concerns to the School Board, the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors in a constructive manner.
Current County Proposed Plans:
In the proposed Capital Improvements Program that will be submitted to the School Board on October 26, 2006, there is a proposed addition for Crozet Elementary School that will increase its capacity to 513 students. If approved by the School Board and the Board of Supervisors, it is expected to be completed by 2009.
