Journey through Hallowed Ground I

Students are invited to move through history this summer as they hike, bike, canoe, and pod along the Journey Through Hallowed Ground, the Route 15 corridor in central Virginia boasting innumerable historical treasures. Their mission is to unlock the stories and lessons of our nation's history as they work with expert historians, archaeologists, and national park guides. Along the path, students will record the trials and triumphs of leaders from the Revolutionary period through the Civil War using video iPods and digital cameras to create an original vodcast. These documentaries, which demand careful analysis of historical information and creative expression, will then be used as an authentic promotional tool by Journey Through Hallowed Ground organization. Specific sites and activities include biking along the C&O Canal tow path and the Gettysburg battlefield, canoeing at Ball's Bluff, hiking Antietam, sleuthing at Montpelier and digging at Ash Lawn.
