FUN FAIR ANNOUNCEMENT
A couple of months ago, I had asked if anyone was willing to take on the Fun Fair Chair position. I have not had any volunteers. There is, however, much interest in seeing this fun-filled community and school tradition continue. In the past, this job has been a huge responsibility for a couple of reasons. One is that we had the silent auction take place in conjunction with the Fun Fair. Even though last year for the first time, we had separate chairs for the Fun Fair and Silent Auction, the combined event was still extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive to plan and carry out. This year, thanks to Kim Connolly and Barbara Congdon for co-chairing, we are having a separate Silent Auction, which will take place in the evening on March 16. Mark your calendars now! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
The other reason that the Silent Auction was a huge responsibility is that it was the one event upon which we depended to raise ¾ of our budgeted revenue. Since we have added several other fundraisers and had them at the beginning of the year, we've been able to take the pressure off the Fun Fair as our major fundraiser. Even so, if we did not have a Fun Fair, we'd lose some revenue, and more importantly, we'd miss a great community-building event! At the last PTO meeting, we had a brief discussion of some changes we could make to the Fun Fair to make it easier to plan and manage. Some of these included having indoor and outdoor games, no food except perhaps popcorn, cotton candy, etc., and face painting. Therefore, we'd need at a minimum the following positions: A Chair or Co-Chairs, Games chair(s) - could be divided between indoor and outdoor, Admissions chair, Decorations Chair, Set-up and Clean-up Chair, and Food Chair (no major food items). Think about if you may be interest in doing any of these things. Please let me know if you are interested. You can send me an email at <mailto:patony at earthlink.net> patony at earthlink.net (or reply to my work email), or call me at 823-6015 (h) or 243-5985 (w) if you want to volunteer or if you have questions.
If there is interest we will decide by the PTO meeting on February 13th.
Thanks,
Patty Marbury
PTO President
24 Club participants:
This a CHANGE from what was originally announced. Next Wednesday, January 17th, the 24 Club will hold a play off in order to choose the two teams to compete in the regional 24 Championship. The championship will be held the evening of February 1st at Sutherland Middle School. One team will be comprised of 3rd and 4th graders. The second team will be comprised of just 5th grade students. Four students and one alternate will be chosen for each team. Students who do not want to compete in the championship are still encouraged to come to the club to just have fun playing or to watch those in the playoffs.
