Walk to School Day is back!
Crozet E.S. will pick up on this successful event from last year and try to make it even more popular. October is the International Walk to School Month so we will begin our program on October 19 th and continue throughout the year on the third Friday of every month (weather permitting).
The Alliance for Community Choice in Transportation/ Safe Routes to School has graciously given us a shipment of reflective backpack tags and bright bandannas for students deciding to participate. Safety kits will be distributed by the school prior to our first Walk.
All children will have the opportunity to walk to school safely supervised and parents are welcome to join the fun. Children who ride the bus to school will be met by teachers, staff, volunteers, and special guests when they arrive at school and will take a walk around the outside of the school before entering the building for the day.
Parents who normally drive their children to school will have the option of parking at Crozet Baptist Church on St. George Avenue and walking their child to school. Children who live in the neighborhood around the church can also come to this location and join the walk down St. George Avenue to Crozet Avenue to the school. Adults will be available at this site to walk with the children departing this location at 7:30am. Please arrive in time to leave with the group, or plan on walking with your child.
Parents are reminded that safety is of utmost importance. Please do not drop off children in the street to join a group of walkers. Be sure to park the car and allow children to exit safely. And be sure the adult leaders are aware that your child is joining the group. Better yet, join the walk yourself!
Any questions, please contact me via email: jonoconnor at aol.com
Thanks!
