Subject: Important meeting to attend

Please post this to EyesOnIvy...

A note about this meeting. The consultants to our local water and sewer
authority believe they have narrowed the possibilities for our future water
supply to four:

1. going to the James River
2. raising the Ragged Mt Reservoir dam
3. raising the present dam at the Rivanna Reservoir
4. dredging the present reservoir

These may be used in combination with each other and all depend on adding
water now stored in Beaver Creek Reservoir to the urban area's available
water (presently the water source for Crozet, which has excess capacity even
for a built-out Crozet)

Questions to ask that are particularly important to Ivy area residents:

Side effects of #1 -- what happens to our soil erosion and other regulations
when the community no longer depends on keeping the Rivanna Reservoir
healthy? Do we want our water to be Lynchburg's responsibility? (currently
our public drinking water is from a watershed almost totally our own
responsibility as it is within Albemarle County's boundaries)

Side effects of #2 -- what happens to the Ragged Mt. natural area and its
paths? do we want a water source close to possible contaminants from I-64?

Side effects of #3 -- we would have to continue to guard this reservoir. Do
we want to continue with that responsibility? (hint: I think that we do)

The meeting includes break-out groups so numbers of attendees, rather than a
formal statement by an organization, will be important. Thank you for
considering this one-more meeting to attend.
