[EyesOnIvy] Update on Tilman-250 Traffic Light

At the Board of Supervisors meeting this past Wednesday, Jim Utterback, VDOT
Resident Administrator, reported on a June 2005 traffic study conducted on
the intersection of Route 250W and Tilman Road.  He said VDOT's engineers
concluded that an upgrade of the blinking yellow warning signal to a full
traffic light was NOT warranted based on their findings.  They will study it
again in Spring 2006.
 
The Ivy Community Association is on record asking for this light to be
upgraded for safety reasons.  I have asked for a copy of the report to get
the data and to make sure it wasn't conducted after school was out.
Interestingly, at the same meeting Mr. Utterback reported on the placement
of a full traffic light at the intersection of Routes 606 & 743, near the
airport runway at Earlysville Rd.  He cited safety concerns and the lack of
good site distances at that location.  This light is "temporary" for the
next 2-3 years during some construction there.
