As the summer is winding down I thought I would share some news and
information for the upcoming school year. Enjoy the next 2 weeks!!

NEW FOR 2007-08!

As you prepare for the upcoming school year, please remember that
students are not to be dropped off at school prior to 8:50 a.m. Last
school year we had a number of students who arrived at school well
before the supervised time began, thus creating a potentially
dangerous situation. Our goals is to maintain a safe and orderly
environment for your child, it is imperative that students not be in
the building without proper adult supervision. Students who arrive
between 8:50 and 9:00 will be asked to go to the cafeteria where
supervision is available. We appreciate your assistance with this.

Wednesday, August 22 - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Monday, September 3 - No School

Wednesday, September 5 - Back to School Night (7:00 - 9:00 PM)
Students may attend but it is not a lot of fun for them!

Some updates on what is happening at Henley

*Dr. Clare Keiser (formerly an assistant principal at Henley) was
appointed principal of Hollymead Elementary.
*Jason Crutchfield will be a new assistant principal at Henley. He
comes from Stuart's Draft Middle School in Augusta County where he
served as an assistant principal for the past two years. Prior to
that he worked for nine years as a classroom teacher at both the
middle school and high school level.

6th Grade Information & Supply List

Being a student in middle school is exciting and different. Students
take six classes and often
have six different teachers. Your locker, rather than your desk,
will hold your books and
belongings as you travel from class to class.

Please try to have the following items by August 22nd:

• A sturdy two-inch 3-ring notebook
• Subject dividers
• A dozen #2 pencils (wooden pencils preferred over mechanical)
• School-ruled notebook paper
• Several pens (blue, black, red or green)
• Two black and white marbleize composition books
• One zipper bag (to hold pencils and pens in front of notebook)
• A set of colored pencils and markers (optional)
• A four-function calculator
• A box of tissues

We will get acquainted on the first day of school. Please bring a
favorite snapshot of yourself
and be prepared to write down several things about yourself that are
unique. You will also get a
chance to walk through your schedule and practice opening your locker.

Students may use a backpack to carry books and supplies to and from
school, but backpacks must
be kept in the lockers during the school day. Students may not take
backpacks to classes. Often
students like to personalize their lockers by putting up mirrors,
snapshots, posters, or even a copy
of their schedule. Feel free to bring a few items to decorate your
locker. All items must be
removed at the end of the year, so please do not bring stickers.

We will have an orientation program on Monday, August 20th at 10:00
am. You should receive your
schedule in the mail about a week before school starts. Bring your
schedule with you to the
orientation so you can find your classes. The first day of school is
Wednesday, August 22nd.

We look forward to seeing you soon,

The Sixth Grade Teachers
