Blue + Orange = Green
The Green School initiative is underway to help students become more
environmentally aware and proactive. The focus will be on how to
positively impact the environment. The students will not be
overwhelmed with gloom and doom scenarios but with more focus on the
positive! Look for more information on this exciting initiative in
the next few weeks.

Parents Can Make On‐line Deposits into Student Cafeteria Accounts
With Albemarle County’s New Café Prepay Program

To make payment of school meals more convenient for families, the
Albemarle County Public Schools Child Nutrition Program is offering
parents an internet‐based service called Café Prepay. The service
is a website where parents can add money to their child’s cafeteria
account using Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card. Parents also can
view their child’s account at any time. This service was activated
on Thurs., August 9, 2007.

Participation in this service is voluntary and parents may enroll at
any time. To use this service, parents must first enroll on the Café
Prepay website. Parents will choose a login name, which they will
use each time they make a payment on the website, and a valid e‐mail
address, where payment confirmations will be sent by Comalex. There
is a small fee for this service. The fee is to cover the cost of
processing credit card payments, as well as the cost of maintaining
the Café Prepay website.

Visit the website for more information. The website address is
www.cafeprepay.com . If you have questions that are not answered on
the website, please contact the Child Nutrition Program at (434) 295‐
0566.

Once parents have enrolled on the Café Prepay website and received a
password from Comalex, they will then be able to log in and enter
personal information. All personal information is stored in a secure
database and is accessed only to process payments and send payment
confirmation via email. Student accounts are automatically updated
several times throughout the day. The school cafeteria will receive
a report of payments made at the end of the school day.

Back to School Night
Please plan to attend on Wednesday, September 5, 7:00 - 9:00 PM.
Children may attend but it is not a lot of fun for the students!

Sixth Grade Social
The Sixth Grade Social will be Friday, September 14, 4:00 - 5:30 PM.
Please encourage your 6th grader to attend! It is a great opportunity
for them to see what the "dances" are all about. There is no charge
to attend the social but they will need to bring money if they would
like to purchase snacks or drinks. There will also be a Parent Social
at the same time in the Media Center. Come meet other parents and
enjoy refreshments and conversation.

Book Fair
All Students will attend the Book Fair during their English class.
Students may also visit the Book Fair before school and during
lunch. Parents will be able to visit the Book Fair on Back to School
Night, Wednesday, September 5, 6:30 - 9:30 PM. The book fair
includes books for moms, dads and younger siblings. Don't forget to
look for the teacher wish lists!

School Drop Off
Just a reminder that students are not to be dropped off at school
prior to 8:50 a.m. Last school year there were a number of students
who arrived at school well before the supervised time began, thus
creating a potentially dangerous situation. The goal is to maintain a
safe and orderly environment for your child, it is imperative that
students not be in the building without proper adult supervision.
Students who arrive between 8:50 and 9:00 will be asked to go to the
cafeteria where supervision is available. We appreciate your
assistance with this.

Picture Day
Picture day will be Wednesday, October 12. The school needs a few
volunteers to help the process run smoothly. If you would like to
help please contact Sandy Conley (mailto:sconley at k12albemarle.org) or
Alyssa Layne (mailto:alayne at k12albemarle.org) in the office.

Magazine Drive
The kickoff for the magazine drive will be Wednesday, September 26.
We need volunteers during the school day to help process the orders
and distribute the prizes. We also need co-chairs for the '08-'09
magazine drive. You can learn all you need to know for next year by
working closely with this years co-chairs. If you can help please
contact Judy Grover (mailto:judygrover at comcast.net).

PATSO
PATSO would like to address some important financial issues this year.
1) We need volunteers for an audit committee to review the financial
records.
2) We would like to apply with the IRS to become an unincorporated
nonprofit organization 501(c)(3). If you have expertise in this area
and would be interested in assisting PATSO with the application
process please contact the PATSO President, Martha Fox
(mailto:foxden4 at embarqmail.com) or the PATSO Treasurer, Lori Blumberg
(mailto:lgband3 at embarqmail.com).

Middle School Sports Program
The middle school sports program is held at all 5 Albemarle County
Middle Schools. The program is a partnership with Albemarle County
Schools and Albemarle County Parks and Recreation. The program is
run two days a week after school as an afterschool program for
students who attend that school. Registration forms for basketball
are currently available in the PE department or email Amy Smith
(mailto:ASmith at albemarle.org) at Albemarle County Parks and
Recreation. The deadline to register is Wednesday, September 5. The
