Make a Difference Day

We will be collecting shoes and belts both new and gently used for
the Orphanage and School at Grison-Garde, Haiti http://
www.fordhaitianorphanage.org. The need is greatest for shoes that
will fit children 10 to 15 years of age. The best choices are
athletic shoes, sandals for girls, or lace up black or brown shoes
(no flip-flops please). The belts are a big item as many children
may have pants but no way to hold them up! We will have a collection
box in the lobby October 22 - October 25. We will make our final
collection at the dance on Thursday, October 25. Any student who
brings a donation to the dance will receive a ticket for a free candy
or soda! If you have any questions please contact Teresa Hashisaki
mailto:thashi at comcast.net.

Safety Forum for Families

Youth Development Network Hotline

Connects Families with Activities for Children

A new, free resource for connecting students with activities,
resources and services in the community is now available to families.

The Youth Development Network Hotline at 1-800-YDN-2021 can be called
between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday by youth, parents or
professionals who need help locating resources such as after-school
activities, sports, counseling and tutoring.

The YDN Hotline is an intake and referral clearinghouse designed to
help youth and families locate needed services, activities and
resources. The Hotline was developed by the YDN, a work group of the
Commission on Children and Families, and it is made up of
representatives from the agencies and organizations that serve
children, youth and families in the Charlottesville-Albemarle
community. The goal of the YDN is to create a collaborative youth
development network that increases the capacity of community agencies
and organizations to provide prevention and intervention services and
activities to all youth.

The YDN also offers an online, searchable database called the “Guide
to Youth Services” available 24-hours a day at www.ccfinfo.org.

Mix It Up at Lunch Day

In November the SCA will be organizing a Mix It Up at Lunch Day.
Students will be assigned a specific table at lunch to meet new
people and make new friends. http://www.tolerance.org/teens/lunch.jsp

Caught Doing Good

Ask your student if they know someone who was "caught doing good."
If you have any items that you would like to contribute as prizes for
the caught doing good program, please contact Dr. McLaughlin at
school mailto:pmclaughlin at k12albemarle.org.

Election

I would like to encourage everyone to vote on Tuesday, November 6.
